The White Horse Inn is a quintessential Country Pub with great pub food, open fires, local ales and a warm welcome. Located just outside the picturesque village of Threlkeld at the foot of the Blencathra and Sharp Edge, it is ideal for trekking, with paths to the mountains immediately from the beer garden.
The Coast to Coast (C2C) route snakes past the front door of the Inn which remains a popular stop for thirsty cyclists and walkers alike. Four of the stables have been converted into bedrooms, two of which sleeping 6 people in bunks, one sleeping eight and one sleeping four. There is a basic kitchen with electric hob, fridge, microwave and a coin operated clothes dryer and a communal dining area seating 16-20 people.

Last time i was in the pub was about three years ago. Used to be a lovely country pub full of character, but it's now awful. One of those overly bright bars with mirrors everywhere. All the charm has been taken out of the place. Very sterile atmosphere, no music. They were mopping up at half past nine. Made us feel like we weren't welcome in there. In a pub. On a saturday night.

Well I've given it four stars based on using the bunkhouse accommodation, not the guesthouse/b&b, which I can't vouch for. But for £50 per night, we got a four bunk bed. The bunkhouse was clean, with a decent shower room and a well equipped kitchen. Excellent location for access to the northern fells. In addition the food was good and a nice atmosphere in the pub. Bar staff were friendly and helpful.

Been to this pub over the years and paid a visit today for food before leaving The Lakes.
Fish & Chips…….sometimes a risky choice but went for it.
Now, £15.95 is a top end price for this meal in anyone’s books but when it arrives with ‘cheap, frozen drop in the fryer chips’, it’s taking the mick!
The fish was cooked properly with a nice layer of batter but it was far from a good meal.
Very disappointed and would question a return visit if that’s the standard of food being served.

Pleasent calm well decorated place with very kind helpful staff. The food was flippin hot.. Something I am unused too in life. The scampi was the first tiem I eaten scampi and said wow now I know why people like this. It was cooked just right. Not all chewy like I'm used to in life. Tea was piping hot. Well worth a visit. Cost about £24 for scampi chips side salad cup tea and a lovely desert. Perfect. O and free WiFi. No phone signal on virgin up there..
