The Eagle and Child Inn is situated on the edge of the quiet Lake District village of Staveley. We are a Lake District pub with accommodation, ideally placed for exploring the rest of the Lakes. We are only a few minutes away from the beautiful Kentmere valley and the bustling towns of Windermere and Kendal.
Staveley itself has much to offer - excellent walking, fishing, cycling, and a vibrant array of local businesses including Hawkshead Brewery & Wheelbase - plenty to offer! We have a great selection of hand-pulled local ales and feature regular guest beers. If you're looking for restaurants or places to eat in Lake District, look no further as Eagle & Child offers great food to satisfy your hungry bellies.

Imagine - A good hike up the valley, over to Troutbeck and back, then sitting by the fire with a couple of Bluebirds (beer that is). You can even add up a juicy Kentmere lamb shank with perhaps a Refreshing Hawkshead or even a Delicious SNECKLIFTER if you prefer! Mebbes a LOCALLY BREWED Pilsner for the Continental types!

Think about this - what could be better than relaxing on a warm summer's evening, hearing the river Kent bubbling past, having a delicious meal, and washing it down with a good local real ale.
We are proud to have been included in the CAMRA good beer guide each year since 2000 - just 6 months after buying the business here at the Eagle. Our aim is to offer as many local brews as we can, CUMBRIA now tipped as the real ale capital of the country with 23 independent local breweries all producing excellent ales.
With its beamed, vaulted ceiling, large fireplace with log burning stove and its own bar the Redmond Suite Function Room is a fantastic venue for that special occasion. The Redmond Suite is a superb venue for all kinds of functions. From weddings to parties, talks to meetings, or simply for large groups wanting to dine in comfort, this self contained room is ideal.

Had a fantastic stay at the eagle and child. Really great value and in a good location for exploring the south east corner of the lakes. Located about halfway between Kendal and Windemere. Top marks to the very friendly and hard working staff.
The pub itself gives off that traditional village pub vibe while being equally as welcoming to visitors and guests. Super cosy inside and the rooms are just great for pub accommodation. Bag a seat by the real fire if you can. A nice selection of Real ales rotate alongside a few keg craft beers. Perfect to get toasty with by the fire or enjoy alongside one

Personally I found the place over priced for what we ate and drank. The fish was nice and there were two okay sizes, chips were you basic, bland oven chips. I gave my husband my mushy peas and one of my fish when I saw his meal. Butterfly chicken with chorizo, he said it tasted nice but it was a sorry looking portion with the same bland chips. We had three pints of hand pulled beer with our meal, not each and our bill was £42. The pub was busy with families and dogs which was nice, the decor was a mass assortment of old stuff, atmosphere was pleasant, staff friendly enough.

We've not stayed here, but dined in the busy pub. Both times I've had the Moroccan lamb, because it was simply too good the first time to justify trying something new. It's just lovely, tender and well-spiced, with apricots and sweet potatoes, and a bright couscous pilaf. I have it on good authority (from my in-laws) that the fish pie is also great. Cozy atmosphere, was very busy last Sunday so I'd recommend booking! And a lovely playground across the street if the kids get antsy waiting for the food. Fun place to get something besides the usual Sunday roast.

This village is too easily passed on the way to Windermere. But the Hawkshead brewery has relocated here and now hosts a very popular summer beer festival. Just 5 minutes walk back towards Kendal is this pub. If you're in the area, go & try. Beer Garden by the river, good food, some (limited) accommodation, real fires AND.... excellently kept local ales!!

This is a busy, riverside pub on the outskirts of Staveley, an attractive village which has much to offer and largely by-passed by tourists. There was a good choice of staple pub food, real ale and local cider (not to my taste). There is a sitting area by the river Kent, but it is on the other side of the main street from the pub.
