The Red Lion Ulverston

A warm welcome awaits from your hosts Steve and Lucia at The Red Lion a traditional Lakeland family run Inn with exposed oak beams and roaring open fire for those chilly winter nights. Surrounded by stunning scenery and only 2 miles from the tip of Coniston Water where one time Red Lion regular Arthur Ransome the Spy/ Author got his inspiration for his famous childrens books Swallows and Amazons.

We offer delicious home cooked good old fashioned pub grub and a choice of regularly changing excellent cask ales( Camra Member). Every second Thursday in the month is our very popular Acoustic jam night with everyone welcome to join in. On warm summers days /nights why not sit in our beer garden with its terrific views towards the mountains and Coniston Old Man.

Accommodation Report

We have 3 very nice rooms 2 large doubles and 1 twin which can be booked as a single all of which are en-suite and have tea /coffee making facilities, a TV and hair dryer with fabulous views of the surrounding countryside. Take a look at our previous guest experiences on TripAdvisor. Double/twin rooms are 95 per night and if the twin is used as a single it's 55 all rates include full English breakfast.

When we first went in there was eleven of us didn't get a friendly welcome choice of drinks were limited the landlord made up for it after was very accomodating the food was nice but not homemade for the price would of expected that

We stayed here for four nights. Great room, suits anyone who likes to stay in a nice pub in a remote location. Within easy reach of the lakes, about 10 minutes from Coniston.

So I’m not judging the service more the woman who runs It I explained my situation that I had mixed up my dates and came the day after the booking was dated for so I was turned away as expected it wasn’t just before I spoke too the landlady that a patriot had told me that there was empty rooms as they had stayed the night before and stopping again… tonight, it just doesn’t settle with me that they haven’t got the customer service as best interest completely my fault however I find this 2 face behaviour and think that future customers might want too take that into

Had a great dinner here with my daughter, the staff were so helpful and friendly. Dinner was nothing extravagant but very hearty. The Cumberland sausage in giant yorkshire will satisfy a good appetite
