We have been a pre-school playgroup for over 45 years situated in the old Hind Leys Community College. We have evolved over the years and we are now sited in our own buildings in the corner of the Iveshead Campus and provide for babies to school age children known for quality years education. Our ethos revolves around the Directors vision and the well-being and interest of children.
The four main sections of our ethos make up the curriculum. Forest School - originating from Scandinavian Countries in the 90's - acknowledging children are connected to nature. The Reggio Emilia Approach - creativity and expressing is woven through all that we offer. The environment is key in this approach seeing this as the 3rd teacher.

Services
Hind Leys Pre School and Natural Play Centre is a unique setting, offering babies and young children a nurturing and generative environment to learn and grow. An established Forest School, we specialise in supporting children's learning through engagement with the natural world. We offer a mindful curriculum with an emphasis on emotional literacy, mindfulness and resilience.
Hind Leys Pre-School playgroup began over 45 years ago as a "pack-away" each day playgroup situated inside Hind Leys Community College. We have always been a registered Charity. We began with 20 children and 3-4 qualified assistants just opening for session times during the academic term, with a Committee of dedicated parents/trustees.
We are not your average nursery. As a Forest School, our connection with nature is a core aspect of the learning opportunities we create for children. These days most educational settings talk of having a 'Forest School', but a true Forest School is more than a weekly session in nature. Find out what a true Forest School looks like - a philosophy and practice that is woven throughout the entire setting.
We take great care in recruiting staff that are a good fit for our setting. We are not, after all, a regular nursery. Wherever staff come from, they have to retrain their skills and their thinking. The end result is a very special and dedicated staff team that work for very little monetary reward. We have staff ranging from Qualified Teachers, through Foundation Degree and Qualified Early Years Levels 2, 3, 4 and 5.
The term 'Forest School' is being increasingly used as a 'buzz word' by nurseries and schools as part of their promotion. Whilst we welcome all efforts by educational settings to support children's engagement with the outdoors, it is important to differentiate between forest school-informed "sessions" and a real Forest School.
