A high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain's past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils' curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.
Throughout our school, the expectation for reading is the same. We continue to work towards our reading challenge of reading 5 times per week and encouraging Every child to read Every night. Reading bags should be brought into school daily with reading records, reading book, library book and spelling books (on Mondays to receive new spellings for the week).
On behalf of the Staff, Children and Governors I would like to welcome you to Hetton Lyons Primary School and our web site. At Hetton Lyons Primary School we aim to give each child the opportunity to develop academically, socially, emotionally, physically and creatively. Our dedicated and committed staff team work hard to provide a safe and secure environment where every child can thrive and flourish.
There are no laws around age or distance of walking to school. A families' guide to the law states: There is no law prohibiting children from being out on their own at any age. It is a matter of judgement for parents to decide when children can play out on their own, walk to the shops or school. Parents are legally obliged to ensure their children get to school and attend regularly, but this in itself does not disallow independent travel.
Hetton Lyons Primary School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its pupils. As a school, we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is no different from safeguarding against any other vulnerability.
