I began training in Kuk Sool Won in 1990 under Master Darren Hart. In 1996 I received my 1st Degree Black Belt. After 9 years of being an assistant instructor, I opened a Kuk Sool Won school of my own in 2005 at Newmarket Suffolk, UK. My favourite aspects of Kuk Sool Won are the variety of skills, techniques, training and ability to help others improve their fitness, confidence and achieve their goals.
Kuk Sool Won is a systematic study of all of the traditional fighting arts, which together comprise the martial arts history of Korea. Kuk Sa Nim has studied martial arts for over 50 years; receiving his first instruction from his grandfather, Myung Deuk Suh, a master-instructor to the Korean Royal Court.
A team of 54 went to the European championships and competed against over 1000 Kuk Sool Won competitors. The combined effort of our team meant that once again Newmarket was the highest performing part-time club and retained the 4th best club in Europe. Such an achievement meant that Kuk Sa Nim presented us with a 60th Anniversary sword!

Kuk Sool Won of Newmarket has a wonderful community surrounding it which is only trumped by the dedication of instructors Scott and Nicola who run the classes.
Kuk Sool is extremely varied in terms of syllabus and each class is different, which has always kept me coming back. There's a focus on proper striking techniques (both hand techniques and kicking), joint locking, throwing, sparring, self defence, meditation and much more.
For somebody who is not very flexible, I have seen great improvements to not only my fitness, but also my confidence, general health and...well flexibility to an extent
