Established in 1680, The Lord Poulett Arms is a traditional yet stylish thatched pub, located in the heart of the historic Somerset village of Hinton Saint George, just over two hours from London and thirty-five minutes from Lyme Regis. Traditional local ales, world-class wines and classic cocktails.
Our menus change as frequently as the surrounding Somerset landscape. Meat and game from local farms, fish landed daily on the south coast and fresh leaves picked just a few steps away in the Kitchen Garden. Well-aged steaks served with hand-cut chips, comforting home-cooked pies, indulgent desserts and world-class cheese.

Never before have I come back from a meal and felt the NEED to write a review afterwards, but wow, WHAT A PLACE. It's been a very long time since we've been somewhere with such consistently delicious food! Each course was the perfect amount of food, with brilliant pairings and cooked to perfection. You want every mouthful to last longer. We're already making plans to go back. The team of staff were very lovely, friendly and kind. The decoration is beautiful and the atmosphere was cosy, friendly and welcoming. Thank you so much for SUCH a lovely meal!! <3

Lovely pub. Friendly and helpful staff. If you are vegan they have imaginative dishes, full of flavours. However, as the menu is seasonal if you visited regularly you would very soon be eating the same things as a vegan. I mentioned this, and they said phone them to discuss alternative choices from the menu rather than end up eating the same thing again. I think this is a problem many customers have in most pubs when they only have one vegan choice on the menu.
The garden area is large with plenty of seating. Some was undercover so it was still pleasant to eat outside in October at lunchtime.

Excellent food, with friendly and courteous service. Traditional pub setting with a relaxed atmosphere and a beautiful fire place on when we arrived. This set the perfect cosy Sunday lunch where the roast dinner was certainly a must have! Dessert was also sublime all at a reasonable price point. Will most certainly be recommending to friends and thanking those that recommended me.

Only a swift visit as I was viewing a house in that area and wanted to see what the local boozer was like. Despite it being a fairly busy lunchtime season, I was greeted immediately and while I was being served, another member of staff asked if I was waiting too. This kind of attentive service is all too rare these days. It's a lovely building with a sunny courtyard out the back. The beer was great, and although I didn't eat the menu looked good and there were plenty of diners, so it must have a strong reputation. Hinton St George is a beautiful village, so if you're in the area it would be worth

Stayed for a night and ate in the restaurant and thought the Lord Poulett was absolutely bang on, across the board - and excellent value. Very high quality decor, food and service without being either pretentious or over-familiar.
Lovely comfortable classic English Farrow & Ball style to the rooms and pub (without veering into the old big paintings of the queen/Union Jack cushions cliche…)
Good local grub and beer, characterful service (without chumminess). Delicious steak and generous and well thought through starters and sides.
Bravo all round, look forward to a return visit. This is a pub

Excellent gastropub and a place I’d love to stay in future.
They’ve a pretty garden at the back, and the inside is full of character with furniture & decor from antiquity.
The menu has both pub classics (spruced up) and restaurant choices. We had mussels in a cider cream sauce with chips & a chunk of homemade bread lathered in butter - brilliant!
Friendly service and good value for money. Highly recommend.
