Services
Following Matthew 5:16, people shine through success, honesty, independence, neighbourliness and enjoyment. We believe children learn best when they're happy and have the confidence to respond to challenges, within a caring Christian environment where adults lead by example. We value the partnership with parents, families and the community to always be the best we can be.
There is no agreed single canon of historical content. History should allow pupils to encounter very different societies from their own, and to weigh different interpretations. They should study important themes from British history but also from European, American and non-Western history. The subject should be relevant: more distant history, such as the Crusades or the Reformation can often be just as illuminating as more recent topics.
Since its opening, the building has been extended several times and now provides five spacious classrooms; an area for infant activities, a library, two small computer areas, a large school hall and a school kitchen. To the front of the school is a hard-surfaced play area, and to the rear a garden and playing field on the hillside.
Our Head teacher is Mrs Wasyliw. She has a degree in geography from Durham University together with over 20 years primary teaching experience. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and pets! Mrs Kowal came to us in 2008 to teach Class 4; having previously worked in Lancashire.
Mrs Gorrill is a higher-level teaching assistant, working with Mrs Kowal in Class 1. She is involved in special needs provision for our children and has been at St John's for many years. She is a tenacious cornet player and can be heard blowing out a tune every Monday in Golcar. Mrs Fraser wears many hats at St John's!
