Our aim is to develop historical skills and concepts, which are transferable to whatever period of history is being studied and will equip children for future learning. It is our intention to develop a love of history and see how it has shaped the world we live in. History is taught through our cross curricular topics or occasionally as a stand-alone subject.
The past comes to life when children use a variety of sources of information to find clues and evidence and take part in discussions with their peers. Through history, children learn to make comparisons and links between the past and modern times and discover how and why things have changed. They learn about people and events in the past, in Britain and the wider world, and realise that these have influenced our lives today.

We are looking forward to working with you over the year and welcoming your children into Red class. This newsletter is intended to give you a quick overview of what's happening this term. We will give you a weekly update via an email. Please make sure you read this information carefully every week, as we will include important timetable changes and events.
I hope you have all had a lovely Summer and are ready for your child's next adventure as they transition into Year 1. Our first topic of the year is 'Space'. We will be blasting off and learning all about the different planets and how to make our own balloon powered rocket to soar amongst the stars (please see our medium-term planning for more details.)
I hope you have all had a lovely Summer and were able to enjoy time making memories and seeing friends and family. Reading - Reading is such a vital part of your child's learning so please read at home with the children. Ten minutes a day really does make all the difference. Please write in child's reading diary so that they can move along our reading stars.
We are so pleased to welcome the children and you to Green Class. This year will be a wonderful year full of learning and fun, not to mention a year of change for your children as they move from Key Stage 1 into Year 3. The exciting and challenging curriculum in Year 3 will give the children access to a variety of different experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.
A phrase I hear regularly is 'Pear Tree is a family' and I would like to emphasise the importance of this. The support you give your child both in and out of school is paramount to their development. Home learning is vital and regular home reading is key. Please encourage your child to record their home reading in their reading diary and we will check these on a weekly basis.
