We are nestled in the heart of the Black Mountains, in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The building has been here for centuries and was originally called "The Half Way Inn", as it was a coaching stop for travellers between London and the Welsh coast. The doors have been closed for nearly 10 years, but it is time for a new chapter here at The Kestrel Inn.
We looked at many establishments in Powys and surrounding counties, but settled on the Brecon Beacons National Park as our base. Over a period of 12 months, the pub has been resurrected with the help of local trades and specialists. The style is light and comfortable, modern with traditional furniture and a big log burner in the bar.

Services
Explore the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Crickhowell and more with an overnight stay at The Kestrel Inn. We have two rooms available. Light and bright, offering amazing views over the Black Mountains. Recently refurbished, the room comes with a comfy double bed, a modern en-suite shower room / WC and hand basin.
Over the time we have lived here, we have met many people who run adventure businesses that tie in really well with our offering. Many as I am, are also National Park Ambassadors. Robert offers bespoke, exclusive, guided tours of the Brecon Beacons National Park and Mid Wales adventure - by car, on foot or by bike.
We decided to work with Lee from the outset, as we were looking to source local, high quality produce for our customers. Richard's specialty, is their rare breed dry aged beef, both Welsh Black and English White. Ben or Rupert visit every week in the growing season, bringing us the freshest tastiest salads, vegetables and fruit.

This inn was wonderful and my partner and I had a memorable and relaxing stay. The host was incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel at home from the start and offering friendly conversation and advice about the area throughout our stay which was much appreciated. The breakfast was delicious and generally we felt like we were staying with family - with the added bonus of complete privacy and separation when we needed it.
The room was a good size, immaculately clean and modern - whilst still having the charm of an inn. The mountain view from our window was breathtaking.

We ate in this pub just after Christmas on a family holiday. It had been beautifully refurbished, with a real fire and a welcoming bar, tastefully decorated. Richard (the owner) was really chatty and very engaging. The food was excellent and good value (very filling). I would recommend the trip out of town for it.

Booked my daughter's 30th birthday family dinner here for 17 people. Not only was the three course meal delicious, even catered for 6 children with a different menu, but Fiona actually baked the most wonderful chocolate birthday cake for her. Richard was very attentive throughout the meal and nothing was too much trouble. We all had a delightful evening which we will remember for a long time. Would highly recommend the Kestrel Inn. Thank you Richard and Fiona.
