Services
Llanthony is one of only a handful of places in the world to have been given the accolade of being a designated dark sky at night location, so if you are a keen photographer or painter Llanthony should be on your lists of places to visit; whether it is to photograph the stunning rugged mountains, the amazing night sky, the historical monuments or the wildlife.
There are many activities for you in and around the area, both for the fit (or not!) to the super athletic. A short walk to the top of the Hatteral Hill will bring you onto the Offa's Dyke path along which the boundary of England and Wales runs.
From the top of the hill and on a clear day you can see 9 different counties and take in the breath-taking view of both the typical patchwork quilt landscape of Herefordshire and the counties beyond to one side and the rugged Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons to the other.

A really nice place to visit, we found it out of the blue in the valleys whilst driving.
The owners are extremely nice and helpful with local information and places to visit with some historical information thrown in. If in the future we are around the area, we will definitely visit the Half Moon Inn again.
Thank you...

We were delighted to find the Half Moon open one lunchtime when other places were shut. We had been exploring Llanthony and were a little tired and quite hungry. For speed we opted for sandwiches and were rewarded with some of the best cheese and ham sandwiches we have enjoyed. The ham was real, fresh, succulent and thick cut (around a half inch in places), the cheese was a slab of tasty Cheddar and the garnish almost a meal itself. It was all washed down with a pint of HPA. We were made to feel very welcome.

Visited on the weekend there were about 15 of us, we all know there are rules in place and why pub owners have to follow the guidelines, however I feel this can be done without being rude and abrupt. I asked for a bowl of chips with cheese on, as I wasn’t that hungry. The chips were white, hard and greasy, you could tell that the kitchen had placed chips covered with cheese in micro instead of just letting cheese melt. Then the lady that brought them told us we were lucky as this was not on the menu. 😳 a bit pointless telling us this as you plonk them on the table, we had also asked the server

Friendly staff and cosy pub. However, most of the food was pretty bad. I had the fish & chips thinking it would be a safe option. The fish was the kind you’d buy frozen from Asda. The chips were bland too. My partner had the lasagna which was much better, but it came with the bland chips. We then had the “hot” chocolate pudding with ice cream. The pudding was cold and stale. The ice cream wasn’t great either.
I’m only giving 4 stars as the staff were friendly and it must be tough during these times. But I hope they put more effort into their food, especially as it’s the only thing
