Ramdev severely injured his back when he was a teenager, and since his early 20s has been passionate about somatic training and the work of Moshe Feldenkrais, for this has kept him mobile and pain-free. He trained in yoga and meditation for 12 years with Swami Atmananda, in India, N. Ireland and his native Singapore.
Somatic movement emphasizes sensing and feeling within - awareness of the living body in its wholeness. In our yoga classes we use somatic movement - movement with awareness - to reorganize our structure and pattern of movement. Once we have found a way of doing something, we tend to always do it the same way - our movements become habitual and therefore limited.
The Feldenkrais Method is a form of somatic education that uses a series of gentle movements and directed attention to encourage a natural and effortless way to move. These lessons help reorganize our habitual patterns of movement by bringing our attention to parts of the self that are out of our awareness.
Surely illnesses for which the medical remedy was surgery and / or extensive medication, could not be dealt with simply by a change in breathing! Clinical studies show that people with various health problems over-breathe, and that few of us breathe healthily, according to the established medical norm.

What a wonderful find! Lovely people and lovely place. The yoga is so restorative and I loved the yoga nidra relaxation at the end. I practice mindfulness and it was very similar to the meditative element of that. The postures were very gentle and the way they guide you helps you to really connect with your body. Beautiful spatious but cosy room. I felt very at home.

I was just looking at the various providers of yoga in Worthing as I was planning to come back to it after suffering from illness, pain and stress. I have been a few times to Bihar School, and they were always my first choice. The classes were offered frequently enough that I could always make a session, and it helped me stay calm and focused at a time when I was the sole carer of my dying Mother. I don't usually write reviews, but was rather shocked by Trevor's review of - not great - and felt it's a little unfair, particularly as there's no explanation given. I like going to BSY as the teachers
