The Royal Standard is a 400 year old family run Palmers pub right on the seafront in beautiful Lyme Regis, Dorset, next to the famous Cobb (both seen in this photo). The beach side pub has been passed down within the same family since 1993 with a little refurbishing here and there but the traditional characteristics of the pub remain the same.
In 2018, the daughter of the Landlord took over with her Greek husband (who is conveniently a trained chef, which is where the Greek influence on the menu comes from). The Royal Standard is one of the flagship pubs for local brewers, Palmers brewery, which has been brewing fine real ales since 1794.

What a lovely day we had in Lyme Regis today. Amazing weather meant we were able to sit outside the Royal Standard and enjoy a really top quality lunch. My Wife's crab sandwich was excellent, my Daughter loved her feta parcels and my broccoli, pea and halloumi (i think), soup of the day, with pork belly croutons, was amazing. The service was immaculate and the Palmers 200 beer was fresh and tasty. Without a doubt, one of the best lunches ever.

Seated and served quite quickly for a late season Saturday night and no booking. Drinks were served immediately. Mains took about fifteen minutes.
I had mussels. They were served with fantastic bread. A rather generous portion of tidy tasty local shells with not a single one closed. A little let down by the broth, not that it would prevent me from ordering it again. Friends had fish and chips and chicken burger both of which were pretty good.
We're sat outside, under cover. A little chilly being right on the seafront.
In conclusion, a nice spot that I shall use again.

We've visited this fab place for years.
The menu has changed over the years with the Greek influence. I love Greek food, but we personally visit for the seafood. And this time felt there was less of the beautiful seafood and more Greek choices. Which I imagine through the non tourist season is an absolute winner.
This year was a little different, still covid safe, so quiet but a little strict. I felt. I understand why, especially with roudy customers. But I just stepped in for a menu when there was none outside and felt I'd be naughty.
All that aside. As always, the food was just fab. Whitebait

Really enjoyed our meal here. The whole pub felt safe and welcoming despite covid, Staff very attentive, friendly and not overbearing. Food was perfect well presented and priced fairly. Was really impressed with my fish pie which was very fresh tasting. Asked for no dressing on salad and that was how it came. Very clean interior. Only downside was drinks were a bit pricey but we were only having one each so overall price was as expected including the meal. Recommended.
