At Brookside, we strive to be a warm and inclusive school, welcoming children from our local area and are open to adapting and developing strategically in order to achieve this. We believe that all members of our school community should work together to maintain a safe and stimulating environment both within school and within our local and global community.
We believe that learning for all pupils should be enjoyable, purposeful and challenging, so that they can perform to the best of their ability. Our vision is that we will enable each child to acquire the skills they need to become independent and confident learners. We encourage children to take ownership of their learning by working together through peer review, a highly empowering skill.

Services
Safeguarding and the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility. At Brookside we take our responsibilities in this area very seriously and have robust systems and procedures in place to ensure that our children are safe, happy and well looked after. Mrs Rachel Clark is the Designated Safeguarding Lead person (DSL) for child protection & safeguarding issues.
We have each put together a video to answer some of your questions and tell you a little bit more about ourselves and Brookside. We are looking forward to welcoming all our new children and families into our Foundation classes in September. We have two Foundation classes who share the same large space.
Each year we produce an School Improvement Plan. The plan is the result of an analysis of the school's needs, strengths and weaknesses as identified by our own monitoring, assessment and evaluation systems, as well as inspections and the Local Authority.
The School Improvement Plan contains the long term priorities and ambitions, which the school wishes to work towards, and also short term actions which will ensure that the long term priorities are achieved.

At Brookside, we are determined to provide all children with a rich, broad and balanced experience in accordance with the National Curriculum, which progresses and builds year on year and provides suitable challenge for all.
We teach a full range of subjects (see details below) and aim to provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities and events to support learning and ensure focus is on children's spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development (SMSC).We like to vary our 'contexts for learning', choosing current events, interests or local places as a means of inspiring and engaging the children in their learning.

At Brookside, most children will progress well through the curriculum with some differentiation being made to teaching styles. Some children will, however, need support in order to make their best progress at school. These children may be considered to have special educational needs.
Special educational needs can cover quite a wide range including physical or sensory impairments, learning difficulties, communication difficulties and emotional or behavioural difficulties. If you have any concerns about your child's learning and progress, you are welcome to speak to your child's class teacher or the school's SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator), Miss Charlotte Arnold.
