Dating from the 17th Century, this Grade-II-listed inn is thought to have been converted to public-house use in the 1800s. Since Andrew and Sheena have run the pub, it has developed an enviable reputation for the quality of its fine ales. Being a free house, real ales are sourced from all across the country, although local beers are by no means neglected.
In the last 12 months, over 100 different ales have been served. The summer beer festival was well attended with a selection of 30 ales all CAMRA or SIBA award winners. A selection of Real ciders from local and countrywide producers are always available from the dedicated "Cider Bar". Early 2013 saw our first Cider festival featuring 21 ciders.

Services
Being Northeners ourselves, we know that some beers can benefit from being served through sparklers/creamers and we are happy to demonstrate this!, therefore we have both should you be of similar persuasion. However, should you have more southern tendencies, we'll hide them! Our beers do change regularly, quicker than we could update a website, so please do pop in & see what we have.
Taken with kind permission from Chelmsford CAMRA's Thirsty Times Magazine, a review of us. I'm saying this as The Victoria Inn in Colchester has been given this CAMRA accolade for 2014. By the time you read this the pub may have been judged as being the best pub in the eastern quarter of the UK. Whether this happens or not this is a remarkable pub and a "must visit" if you ever pass close to Colchester.

Good old English pub. Won the award for the best cider of last year. They serve about 8 different types of cider. I had the 7.4% alcohol. It was not as sweet as bulmers cider, but had a smoother taste.
Unfortunately, they donβt serve any cooked food not to mention a pub lunch. I was looking forward to having a pub lunch, because there is always a uniqueness to the food cooked in pubs.
The people in the pub were friendly. The lady who served was polite, pleasant and willing to serve. She also recommended the cider I drank. Only had one pint, since I was driving later and did not want to be over
