There's something for everyone including great food and drinks, lovely bar and lounge areas that can be reserved for larger group dining and a beer garden with alfresco dining in the warmer summer months. Amazing food for the price of a Take away sandwich !!! ............So glad we tried this place for lunch after deciding against a local pretentious garden centre cafe .......Owner was very welcoming and the lunch we ordered was exceptional well cooked and well presented for the unbelievable price of £3.50 each !! Toilets were clean and had some nice touches in the toiletry supplies for anyone "caught short " .......will be returning

The Essex Skipper is a very nice cosy place to have lunch. My friend and I travelled a long way to see a relative who lives in the area and we dined here having checked online first. The service was efficient, polite and generous. The food was delicious. We hope to come back again soon.

Always happy with our meals at "The Essex Skipper". Lovely friendly attentive staff. Spotless surroundings. Nice outdoor space for those sunny days. Good spacing between tables and clean toilets. What's not to like?

Average. Just got back and a little bit miffed about quality of food. After looking online at menus we arrived to find a smaller menu.
Steak advertised at 11.99 until I said it was advertised at 7.99 after 5pm Mon and Tue. Steak tasted OK, chips OK onion rings poor (like a bag of Iceland ones for £1) and peas and tomato cold.
Ended up paying £36 for 3 meals and 3 drinks. Overpriced for quality and presentation to be honest but really couldn't be bothered with questioning anything as wanted to get home. No chance we were having desert.
Shame really as pub decor and staff seemed really nice

Went in for a meal earlier. Each had a steak and it was lovely. My rump, medium cooked was so tender, I enjoyed every mouthful (thank you Mr Chef!). Perfect sized portions and fantastic value for money. Extremely friendly and attentive staff.
Also went for Sunday lunch a week later and it was lovely, proper roasties, melt in the mouth chicken breast and a top class yorkie pud! Once again the customer service was great.

A Monday lunch visit in November was quiet but the service was excellent and the food good.
Portion sizes are large with a selection of pub favourites mixed with curry and fajita options. The beef fajitas was enough for two people, delivered sizzling to the table with two wraps. The steak and ale pie is huge with the option of chips or mash (the mash is under the pie) with more veg than you could wish for. The hunters chicken was ok...not the best and light on BBQ sauce.
Recommended. Book in advance on busier days.
