Dovecote Farm Boarding Kennels and Cattery is situated at Brasside, Durham, DH1 5SQ. We have been looking after pets for our customers since the 1970's, and pride ourselves on providing a top quality, friendly and personal service. The dogs are walked individually on leads on our own private tracks in the Durham countryside twice a day, the kennels are heated when it turns cold.
We are able to feed the dogs our own food or cater for special diets which you may provide. We insist that the dogs have a valid booster and a kennel cough vaccination. They must have a microchip. Dogs are always housed separately, although dogs from the same customer may share a kennel. The cats are given a choice of food, as with the dogs sometimes people bring in special diets.

These are a few of our regulars, some of which have been using the kennels for over 3 decades, bringing in 2 or 3 generations of cats or dogs. My sincere thanks to all below for the photos and comments. I am genuinely touched by some of the lovely things people have said. My apologies to the many not included.
You will need to bring your vaccination card or book, we will record your last vaccination details and give you it back. We supply bowls and so on, people somtimes bring in chews and treats, the hard ones that last may be best. If you dont feed chews at home then dont bring them in in case they upset your dogs stomach.

All my family use these kennels, they are very strict on the dog's (and I believe that they also take cats) being up to date with all of their vaccinations.
The place is clean, tidy and well run, the people who run this place are strict but very friendly. We have used this place for many, many years and don't see us using anywhere else.

Lovely place. Very friendly, family run business. Kennels are secure, clean and well equipped! Jango stayed for a week during our holidays and came home feeling awesome. He looks fine, has clearly been exercised enough and has been eating no problem whilst he was with them. He doesn't even smell bad, which is usually a given after a short stay in kennels, really surprised that he hadn't lost a lot of weight or become very stressed out like he has at other kennels in the past. Cannot fault these guys, really pleased with how they've cared for my boy. (Photo taken day of pickup)

We leave our french bulldog here very often! The staff really care and are very accommodating to try and fit you into their busy business, my bulldog does lose a little weight when he's here, but that's because he's walked/ran about alot more than usual, and yes, he does smell a bit when we get him home (nothing a bath can't fix)
But he's in a kennel, surrounded by other animals? What are people expecting? I think people are being a bit unfair and unrealistic on here!
All in all, they deal with a very stubborn and hard to please french bulldog, he comes home absolutely fine! And for the price

The people who work here seem lovely, friendly people and the kennels looked nice and clean. They were happy for me to call every day to check up to see how my dog was, she stayed for 7days when I went to collect her she seemed happy but on getting her home she was different, she smelt really bad, she has lost a lot of weight she is a whippet so naturally skinny but she is now unhealthily skinny I can feel her spine all her ribs and her hip bones as if she has not ate at all since being here!! Also she keeps scratching like mad as if she has fleas or is irritated by something Not only this but

I left my puppy here whilst I went on holiday for a week. As he has a delicate tummy I left my own food, but I worked out he would have just enough for 6 days and on the last day I gave permission for them to use their own food and I'd deal with the messy consequences the next day. When we picked him up he had THREE FULL tins left! He'd been given HALF the amount he should have had and was absolutely starving when we got him home! He was also absolutely filthy and stank to high heaven. It looked like he'd been sleeping in his own dirt. Also, I took a bag through with some home comforts, his favourite
