Dame Catherine Harpur's School
We are a small independent school and nursery offering affordable education with a child-centred and stress-free approach. We believe that every child should have a positive learning experience and so encourage parents to work in partnership with us to develop what works best for them - whether that's by taking advantage of our unique offer of part time attendance models (flexi-schooling or home-school sessions) or by contributing to the engaging, creative curriculum full-time in school.

The school ethos extends to our nursery setting providing a safe and nourishing early years environment. When I visited the school, I fell in love with the place.

For the last 30 years, we at Dame Catherine's have developed a unique learning environment focusing on a holistic, child-led approach. We teach across all years from reception to year 6, working collectively, individually and in smaller groups depending on the subject area and tasks. Children attending our part-time sessions would work within the existing school format or our popular nursery of 3 & 4 year olds.
Dame Catherine Harpur's School was set up as a charitable trust in 1744 by benefactress Dame Catherine Harpur, to provide free education for the boys and girls of Ticknall and the surrounding parishes. Two hundred years later, the village school was still going strong, and from 1903 was administered in partnership with Derbyshire County Council.
We offer a unique small-scale environment offering affordable education with a child centred and stress-free approach. Our emphasis is upon exploration as well as academic excellence. Our core provision is for children who are with us 5 days a week. There are many reasons you might choose Dame Catherine's for full-time education for your child.
That special place is Dame Catherine Harpur's School and Nursery, a unique environment for children aged 3-11 years where we 'Include, Ignite and Innovate.' Innovate - our curriculum and teaching methods celebrate and encourage innovation. We model this as a school where we develop excellent practice using educational ideas from a wide range of other settings.
Dame Catherine Harpur's School is an enchanting environment set within green lawns and hidden dens, with the spire of St George's Church just a stone's throw away. This magical oasis is one of the reasons why our pupils are so happy here. Our school provides a first class all-round education for girls and boys in a happy family environment from three to eleven years of age.

Great school that really loves and helps students. Annual art show is an incredible undertaking, with artists and visitors from all places. Incredible variety, definitely worth visiting after covid - and i believe it's moved online for now.
