The Ship Inn
Built by adventurer John Rashleigh in 1570, The Ship Inn is Fowey's oldest pub. For more than four centuries the inn has been the focal point of our beautiful Cornish port - a haven for travellers, merchants, fishermen between hauls, and locals looking for a chat around the huge open fire. It's a tradition that has been embraced under our new management.

Still the same friendly pub reviving customers from all walks of life, but now feeding and keeping you even better. The menu makes full use of the fish and seafood coming in to port every morning and the superb produce from nearby farms. The drinks include a healthy dose of Cornish ales, a proper wine list and real coffee for the morning after.
Services
The Ship Inn, AKA 'The Old Lady of Fowey' is a Grade II* listed building. Although officially built for John Rashleigh in 1570, according to English Heritage, it was probably a merchant's house before this, dating back to the 1400s. There are very few pubs around with so many of the original features intact.
John Rashleigh of Fowey and Menabilly, first in a spate of many John Rashleighs to follow, built the Ship Inn in 1570. By 1582, the Rashleigh family were one of the most influential forces in Fowey. A good pub, then. When you enter The Ship Inn you're entering one of Fowey's oldest buildings. It's a relic of John's remarkable life story and there are reminders of him wherever you look.
The Ship Inn is one of Fowey's top culinary destinations. We have a passionate kitchen and front of house team who all share a love of great food. We often have job opportunities for permanent and seasonal staff. If you can't see a suitable vacancy below, but think you might fit in, please send your CV and covering letter to us anyway and if we like the sound of you we'll keep your details to hand and contact you when something comes up.
Pubs should be welcoming, unpretentious places and the food we offer will always reflect this. But the classics become even more memorable when you cook them with care and only use fantastic, fresh ingredients. We're lucky enough to have an incredible bounty of the UK's best fish and seafood, quite literally a few quay steps away.
