The Carpenters Arms
From missed Birthdays to wedding Anniversaries, we are now welcoming group bookings in our restaurant and private dining areas. The wait is over, group bookings and private dining is back. Please get in touch to make your group booking. When we think of Provenance, we think of all things genuine, rooted in something comfortingly historic.

It's an ethos, more than a name. It's how we deliver our daily business. Here at The Carpenters Arms, we celebrate the fact that we are part of Provenance Inns and have unrivalled access to our very own kitchen garden, less than one mile away at Mount St. John. It is our belief that keeping the food miles low and the quality high is the simple route to a successful food-based yet experiential business.

Abysmal service on Sunday night from the waiter and waitress , waiter was so rude and waitress was just forgetful , after ordering wine we had to go up and remind her after 20 minutes about our order .. no apology... Then came the worst part the food .. we ordered the pork with crackling nothing like the picture that was advertised it would not feed a 3 year old .. we did complain and were told this was being dealt with by the chef and manager .. nothing happened.. we were in the middle of nowhere starving Hungry ... This meal was a gift for my 50th birthday that was booked before lockdown so was

Great food, reasonable price drinks, and friendly staff. Nice place for a spot of lunch. Just remember to book for the evening as it's very popular

We had to change our booking at short notice which was accommodated with no problem.
When we arrived we were taken to our table with menus and wine list. It seemed a long time before we had our food order taken, although the drinks came promptly. There seemed to be a very long delay before the starters came, a cold salad dish so no cooking required. Then came the long wait, with a table of 4 who arrived at the same time finishing their main before ours arrived. After being seated for 90 minutes, our main arrived with no explanation or apology for the long wait. We felt like second class diners

Shocking amount of time waiting for food
No sanitisation of tables between diners!!!
Very rude waitress - acknowledged that we wanted to feel safe and away from bulk of diners (and that it was our wedding anniversary).
When we were subjected and somewhat overtaken by a table of 10 we asked for the bill to brought so we could leave asap - she might as well have thrown the bill and card machine at us. Her attitude was frankly disgusting. She completely forgot who was the guest and who was paying!!
Not recommend for discerning patrons.

Food is great, rooms are some of the best I've seen but didn't really spend much time in the room. All facilities are an excellent standard.

We had evening meal 10,10,21. Food was ok and staff one dressing casual and another wearing a fleece hmmm. It is a lovely pub and great views in an idyllic village location . Now what I deem downright bloody cheeky is when we got the bill there was a service charge of £3,68 WHAT. If I want to leave and tip it's a MY discretion, didn't want to make a fuss so did not challenge it . We eat around the area and as far as I know this is the only one doing this, so with that in mind probably won't be going back there are loads of other great pubs around here and are not as grabbing so hence 3*

Went for a birthday meal on Monday, food was amazing and staff were great. Was lovely (and rare!) to have a choice of two vegetarian mains. Food was so good that we decided to return again later in the week. Couldn’t fault a thing- thank you!

One star was a push. Called into supposedly the best pub in North Yorkshire only to be told they had no food !!! Tables set all ready and 8 Aston Martin cars outside do hope they had some for these guests but none for other hungry travellers ! Felt like removing their sign from the end of the road as we had been enticed by it the 3miles to the pub for nothing!

A very pleasant pub with stunning views from the garden terrace. It was a little bit too dog friendly for our liking though as they seemed to be allowed anywhere inside or out. When we had our meal almost all the other tables had a unobedient dog with them which we found a bit off putting. Other than that we couldn't fault the place.
