Services
We are situated in the historic village of Crayke, with breath-taking views over the vale of York on three sides, and a charming view up the hill to the medieval Church. Crayke is less than 25 minutes from York City Centre, and in the heart of Herriot Country. We are well placed for visits to the Jorvik Centre, Castle Howard, Beningbrough Hall, Helmsley Castle, Nunnington Hall, Byland Abbey and other stately homes and historic sites.
We embrace the principle of good food in relaxed surroundings, we have always used the freshest and best of ingredients and buy locally wherever possible. Our A LA CARTE MENU celebrates a fabulous array of locally sourced meats, vegetables, fresh fish and seafood. As the seasons change so do our menus, to reflect the wealth of local produce for which this area is renowned.
This rural bolthole offers comfort and attention to detail, within a personal and friendly environment. We offer 5* accommodation and award winning breakfasts. All our rooms are individually designed whether the renovated farm buildings or The Studio Suite within the main Ox building. These are generous, comfortable relaxed spaces offering country style chic in a rural setting.
Our double rooms are converted outbuilding to the rear of the pub with en-suite bathrooms & seating areas, suitable for two people, complimentary tea trays, flat screen televisions and L'Occitane products. All our accommodation has a television, tea and coffee tray, hair dryer and individually controlled heating.
The Studio Suite is a wonderfully large, light, suite with incredible views up the hill to the Church and across the Vale of York. The Studio enjoys wonderful views in all directions; across the Vale of York one way, the Howardian Hills and up the hill to Crayke Church. In the Spring the daffodils are amazing.

Stayed here on Boxing Day and Rose Cottage was excellent. Very well presented and dog friendly too. We were able to borrow quite a few dog blankets from the Doghouse too.
A great meal on the evening in the restaurant and a fantastic breakfast. It isn't everyday that you see prosecco and vodka on the breakfast buffet.
Would definitely return.

This place is a real gem, stayed nearby on a recent trip down to Stratford and booked in totally by chance, the staff were a delight going out of their way to make us feel welcome and accommodate our party.
The food was delicious and portions were so generous for the money that even three big eaters in our group almost didn't finish!
Will definately be coming back here!

I have never posted a review before, but this place is, without doubt, worth sharing. Food and drink are amazing and the service is just perfect. I came here on my own with my dog on a Friday night, and they could not have been more wonderful. Delicious food and highly recommend cocktails- the bar is brilliant. Plus it's so warm and cosy, all you could ever ask for from a great pub. Thank you to all at the ox!

The food is absolutely amazing. The accommodation was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The bed was huge and looked comfy.... unfortunately that wasn't the case . It was unfortunately well slept in and the mattress needed replacing. But saying that it didn't stop us having a wonderful weekends stay at this very special pub.
Certainly won't put us off staying again.

Had a fantastic stay at the Durham Ox. Stayed in the Blue Room, lovely and cosy, clean and well presented. Well equipped everything you could need for a short stay.
The stay included, evening meal, bed and breakfast.
The food was excellent, the sticky belly pork was the tastiest thing I've eaten in years.
Staff were friendly and very attentive.
I will definitely return.

We thought the over-pricing pretentious but the food, service and surroundings all very good. Starters of avocado and pea/peashoot, sundried toms salad with other nice stuff was well balanced. The 'sizzling' prawns were breast stroking in oil with peppers and had they ever sizzled it was long prior their arrival to the table. Accompanying flatbreads were two slices of pizza base (complete with passata) which were... unexpected. Mains were whole dover sole which was very good and queen scallops which unfortunately were served with their two-cheese partners baked firmly to their shells, so had I

Our first meal out in nearly four months, and this was a great way to start. Their website has clear instructions about the health rules at present, staff are very friendly, menu is stunning, food and drinks excellent. This is not pub grub, but restaurant quality food in a relaxed atmosphere. Must also add the car park has an amazing view, the village is very picturesque and there are also rooms available at The Durham Ox.

This is a restaurant/pub with rooms. You can have an informal meal in the bar area or dine in the restaurant. Cooking is classic contemporary and very good quality - more a gastro-pub style. The food was excellent but the lack of wine knowledge was interesting. The waitress tried to convince me that an Italian 'ripasso' wine was 'exactly the same' as a South African Bordeaux blend we had ordered but was out of stock. Bizarrely when I said I wasn't happy with that the waitress insisted she was right. I work in the wine industry and know the huge difference there is between
