We had no intention of taking on Ye Old Sun Inn when we stepped through the door all those years ago. But one look was all it took to convince us this was the pub for us. We'd previously dismissed it because, to be honest, it was too successful. We wanted somewhere on its knees that we could build up.
With it's wealth of charm and character Ye Old Sun Inn is a great pub to visit for any occasion, our home cooked menu devised by our team of chefs and cooked with the best local quality ingredients to suit any dietary requirements -please try and let us know in advance if you have any dietary needs that need extra consideration so we can do our best to offer you a great selection too.
Our newly developed area just to the side of the Pub is our own little outdoor heaven! With its own bar in the log cabin and pizza oven serving freshly made pizza's rolled and topped to order (serving hours may differ from normal food hours) with many varieties of toppings to choose.
The area can be booked as part of a private party and we have also provisions to place a marque over the whole area for weddings and bigger functions up to 200 guests.Or maybe just a small gathering within the log cabin for a catch up and informal get together.

It's difficult to talk about winning awards without sounding boastful. So we're not going to try. We could pretend they don't matter to us and that we can take or leave them. But they do matter because we're passionate about what we do and, frankly, we'd always much rather take them than leave them.
We've always been well known for our food and hospitality, but you're only as good as the last meal you served! We are proud of our local links with suppliers using the very best local produce that is available to us in season.

Lovely location but disappointing food. Overpriced for what it was and a 10% gratuity was added to the bill without asking first. I would not have minded if the food was good and the service a happy experience, but clearly family run pub so not sure who gets the gratuity. Just a way to get more money out of customers.

What a lovely little pub and restaurant. My husband and I had a track day at elvington and asked the staff for a recommendation on somewhere to eat. Ye Old Sun Inn came highly recommended and rightly so.
I had pie of the day which was to die for and my husband had steak which was cooked to perfection. The staff were fabulous, friendly and very attentive. After our meals we had the pistachio and chocolate Blondie and the blueberry creme brulee which were both exquisite. Definitely recommend and will probably stop in for lunch on our way back to London after the weekend.

Nice food and lovely staff.
Range of food is quite poor and, given the restaurant menu pretty much reflects the bar menu, was quite disappointing. The prices are a little on the steep side but the facilities are tip top.
The place has the decor and feel of a country pub trying to be a posh restaurant.
We probably wouldn't visit again but this is more down to our taste the a knock against the venue.
Having said that I really enjoyed my fish and chips but this was one of the cheapest things on the menu at £14

Excellent meal, the pies were mouthwatering. I'd highly recommend this pub to anyone. The hospitality was great and blankets were provided for a chilly York day. The travel from York city centre was easy enough with the car and didn't take too long. I recommend booking in advance as it fills up and for good reason.
Great job, keep up the great work!

Stopped for an evening meal on the way up to Whitby. Lovely village location. Felt out of the way but is close to main roads. Great ambience and comfortable surroundings. Food was excellent and very well presented. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Very good drink selection, including a new Aspall's cider that I'd not heard of before which was very tasty.
