Saffron Walden Nursery School was formed in 1966 through a demand for high quality care and education for children in the community. As a Nursery we strive for excellence in all that we do and are constantly evolving to meet the needs of our children and families. We believe that childhood is precious and that for children play is the equivalent of "real work".
Our Practitioners carefully plan for each individual child to ensure they can reach their full potential. We have a strong outdoor ethos and we encourage the children to learn through the natural environment, whatever the weather, through free-flow access to our gardens. Children thoroughly enjoy the wonderful outdoor area.

Services
Saffron Walden Nursery School has been providing high quality "discovery based play" education for our community since 1966. We believe that for children play is the equivalent of "real-work", it is the business of childhood which we nurture through our child-centred planning. We have a strong outdoors ethos; we encourage our children to learn through the natural environment, whatever the weather, through free flow access to our gardens.
No two days are ever exactly the same at Saffron Walden Nursery School. We plan our activities to meet the children's ever changing needs and encourage the children to make their own choices of activity. The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework underlines our discovery based approach and ensures that, whether they are inside or outside, each individual child is challenged and stimulated.
Saffron Walden Nursery School was first registered as a charity in 1972, and has enjoyed this status ever since. As a registered charity we have a full constitution which governs how the nursery is operated. A copy of the constitution is available from the nursery office should you require it. The nursery is a non-profit making organisation, we receive no financial support from any public body.
Together, Caroline and Barbs are joint managers of the nursery. They are a fun-loving duo and dedicated to the happiness and wellbeing of the children, their families and our staff. Caroline has a Level 5 Diploma in Early Years (Advanced Practice) and over twenty years' experience in childcare. Caroline is room leader of "The Nest", which is our baby room.
At our nursery we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage. The Early Years Foundation Stage is a play led curriculum for children from birth to five years of age, and covers seven areas. Within these areas there are 3 Prime Areas and 4 Specific Areas. Our setting uses the Key Person Approach, this means that each practitioner has a group of children for whom s/he is particularly responsible.
