We take the business of learning seriously and at the heart of our curriculum is 'learning to read and reading to learn'. We discuss learning with children, identify when and how they learn best, what helps them and what they can do if learning is difficult. We also model for the children different ways of learning and acquiring new knowledge and skills.
We are independent, inquisitive lifelong learners; resilient, confident and empowered to make the right choices. Together, or as individuals, we are equipped to meet the exciting challenges of the 21st Century and achieve our full potential. At Horton Grange we develop and reward children for developing and demonstrating our key HORTON values.
In school there are 450 (approx) children including a very popular 56 place nursery with 13 full time places and a 2 year old provision for 12 children. The spacious school building has been totally refurbished in the last few years and has excellent ICT facilities. Our grounds are extensive and include playing fields, 2 playgrounds, adventure play facilities, gardens and a Forest School which is run by our trained leader.
School governors are volunteers who help to run the school. Most schools work with a group of school governors - together called the 'governing body' who represent groups such as parents, community, staff and Local Authority. They help the school to set high standards by planning for the school's future and setting targets for school improvement as well as being a critical friend to the school, offering support, challenge and advice.
The DfE have recently reinforced the need "to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs." The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values have been reiterated this year (2014).
