Gilwern Primary School
We're a village primary school for 4 to 11-year-olds situated in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park and walking distance from the River Usk and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. Our pupils come from Gilwern and the surrounding area, and most have attended the Hopscotch Nursery within our school grounds.

We run a caring, friendly school where the staff make every effort to ensure our pupils develop both academically and socially in a stimulating, exciting and purposeful environment. We aim to make sure each and every child who passes through our school's doors will develop the knowledge, values and skills to get the most out of their time in our school and afterwards.
Services
Gilwern School was established in 1879 and has been on our current site since 1973. We have over 210 pupils on roll, ranging from 4 to 11 years old. The Hopscotch Nursery is also located within the its own separate grounds on the school site. The school has extensive grounds including rugby/football pitches, netball courts and activity areas for the children.
It is recommended that clear purpose-made sports-style bottles are used and are clearly labelled with the pupil's name. Bottles should be kept on pupil's desks or for younger pupils stored in a crate in the classroom. Bottles are for water only.

Bottles are sent home daily to be cleaned, they should be washed in warm soapy water, the sports caps scrubbed with a brush, and bottles left to air-dry upside down in a hygienic place; or they can be washed in a dishwasher if the bottles are suitable. The School Coucil have been considering the issue of none healthy snacks being eaten by pupils during school time.
Our school is registered with the Eco-Schools programme which provides us with a simple framework to integrate environmental education and improvements into the running of the whole school. Eco-Explorers are a group of pupils who are keen to show their commitment to our school, local and global environment.
Criw Cymraeg is made up exclusively of members who are excited to speak Welsh and they are keen to learn more! During this year they will be encouraging other members of the school community who want to share their welsh oracy skills and distributing badges to anyone who would like to be addressed in Welsh.
Promote the use of technology throughout the school to enhance learning through delivering workshops. Enhance our own and others ability to use technology confidently, safely and for positive purposes. We will help to enhance teaching and learning throughout the school by supporting the use of technology to further learning.
