At Derwent Primary School we have created a friendly, caring and supportive environment that encourages our children to fully learn, develop and share a love of learning. This ethos creates a happy and safe school where all our children are able to make a flying start towards reaching their potential.

We are also a values led school where all members of the community are respected. Each month we focus on a different value and celebrate when children demonstrate it, whether inside or outside school. We are fortunate to be based within extensive grounds with two large playgrounds, outside learning areas for: Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2, a pond area and an internal courtyard (which is now our values garden).
Services
At Derwent we aim to provide financial transparency for parents, staff and governors. We aim to manage a balanced budget in line with DFE guidelines. Please find a link here to the schools financial benchmarking site if you wish to know more. In line with government guidance we also provide information on higher paid staff (those earning more than 100,000).
Remote education is how learning takes places when pupils are unable to attend school. This may be because of a national lockdown, an enforced closing of a bubble by Public Health England or enforced self-isolation. Remote education across the Federation is delivered through Class Dojo.

This information below is intended to provide clarity and transparency to parents or carers about what to expect from remote education at Derwent Lower School if local or national restrictions require students to remain at home.
Social media and internet use have become a central part of all our lives, whether at work or at home, including the lives of the children. However this freedom can invite certain dangers. Talk to your children about what they are up to on line. Be part of their online lives and take an interest. If they know you understand, your children are more likely to come to you if they have problems.
Derwent Primary School is a high achieving school that has continued to improve results for children over the last 4 years. At Derwent Primary School we are proud of all our achievements. The report celebrates how. Pre-school and Reception classes offer exciting activities for children. Staff have high expectations and ensure that children develop the skills, knowledge and understanding critical to success in later years.
Safeguarding is of paramount importance at Derwent Lower School. We have a number of members of staff who are trained to be 'Designated Safeguarding Leads' and all our staff receive regular training on safeguarding. The Designated Safeguarding Lead at Derwent Primary School is the Headteacher, James Adkins (repeated full Designated Safeguarding Lead training on autumn 2019).

My dad worked here briefly. It is a stark contrast to Raynsford. Has improved though.

Where to start.....
Location is lovely, plenty of space for the kids to run around. The staff are really nice and friendly.
Academically the school is on another level. A low level. If your child is intelligent then they will not be challenged.
This schools ethos is all about helping the less able children to achieve at the expense of the more able. This is ideal if you want your child to achieve an average level of education.
The level of praise, Head Masters awards & star of the week etc are ridiculous to the point that half the kids get some kind of award each week.
The school always has
