We are a fun, loving, creative bunch at The Old Forge, with boundless energy and an incredibly professional and conscientious approach to all aspects of our work. We are one big happy family and enjoy close and supportive relationships with each other.
We benefit greatly from the high level of qualifications throughout the team, including; one qualified Primary School Teacher, two Early Years Teachers, six degrees, with a further one working towards their degree in childcare, and all with up-to-date: enhanced DBS checks, pediatric first aid, food hygiene and safeguarding training as standard.

Welcome to The Old Forge Children's Day Nursery in Findern, Derby where we offer a friendly, personal service to create an atmosphere as close to home as possible. The Old Forge Day Nursery is an attractive nineteenth century half-timbered building which has been specially modernised to provide a safe, secure, loving and homely environment.
Our bright, open, yet cosy and homely rooms are tailor-made to suit each specific age group. With a variety of equipment to ensure that the children are entertained, engaged and challenged in a safe environment which caters for their every need.
The big low bay windows in each room, a gorgeous feature of our fairytale building, allows the children to look out over the Village Green and enjoy the lovely pace of village life including the passing tractors and horses.

The Nursery is owned by husband and wife team, Abby and Marcus who bought the nursery in 2009. Having three young children themselves, they fully understand the expectations and needs of parents/carers and care passionately about delivering the best possible childcare. Set within the quiet, safe and pretty village of Findern, you couldn't wish for a more idyllic setting for a nursery.
We are an official Forest School Nursery. Forest School is a stimulating learning experience. It allows all children to test themselves, build self-esteem and pride, develop new skills and learn the art of reflection.
We have a lovely little Forest School area within our grounds for our children to enjoy, with one qualified Forest School Coordinator and another four members of staff working towards getting their Forest School Leader qualification.All of our children enjoy daily Forest School sessions. Forest School offers children an exciting, inspiring and constantly changing outdoor environment.

It’s a brilliant place to ensure your little one is cared for. I was like most parents really nervous about leaving my little boy to go back to work but the nursery staff are brilliant. The food is way better than I can make all incredibly healthy. They’ll stick to whatever routine you want especially when they’re little this is helpful. I love… that they’re outside all the time in the forest school getting plenty of fresh air. They even have tea on the campfire out there. The nursery does regular development reviews on the children which is very helpful. They&rsquo

Amazing nursery. My daughter absolutely loves it here she has been to a few and by far the best. fresh food cooked fresh everyday by the amazing cook. With all the animals at the nursery to which Isabella loves 😍 the staff are amazing to. They do so much with the children and nothing is ever any trouble. They have all worked so hard threw this difficult year and kept everyone safe. Thank you so much xx defo recommend x

After visiting many nurseries before choosing the Old Forge Day Nursery, I can honestly say I made the best choice for my son. The care he has received and continues to receive has been wonderful and the opportunities he gets every day is fantastic- from Forest Schools, visiting the marina, seeing the horses, looking after chickens... I could go… on! The dedication of the staff is much appreciated and the support during Lockdown was brilliant. Getting recipes from the kitchen to daily activities and live sessions were much appreciated! Thank you for everything you do 😊⭐️

Best nursery by far. They have been amazing with my twins more so my son who has Cerebral Palsy. They've always had his best interest at heart and have catered for all his needs going beyond their roles. The twins settled in immediately and my son has come on so far emotionally and physically with the support of amazing staff.

This is honestly an amazing Nursery. My little girl has gone here since she was 1 and is now about to turn 3. She has learned so much and really enjoys all the activities they do. I remember when I first went to see this Nursery and I will be honest at first I thought maybe prefer somewhere more modern looking, I checked these more modern looking… places and the just felt so clinical, and seemed more just like a play group then a place for a child to grow and learn. My little girl has thrived here and its so homely too. From inside to the outdoor cabins and the forest school. The Staff are

Our daughter has attended the Old Forge for 14 months now and has thrived through being there. We’ve found the staff very competent and friendly and the range of activities they get up to both inside and outside is amazing. They spend a huge amount of time outdoors which was one of the reasons why we chose to send her to the Old Forge.

Both our two children attended this nursery. We couldn't have wished for a better start to their education. There were always varied, stimulating activities for them to enjoy and learn from. The staff there knew our children well and we were well-informed of how they were doing. The indoor and outdoor facilities were excellent. Certainly recommended.
