This is a thriving, happy and successful school and we hope that you find this website a useful way to get to know us better. We are fortunate to be placed at the heart of the historic City of York. From walks down the river to dressing up as Romans, our community lies at the heart of everything we do.
For each child, aged from 3 to 11, we want to foster a love of learning and a deep desire to be successful so they are prepared for a changing world in the 21st century. We want the children to begin a learning journey that will continue throughout their lives. Active learning and teaching is central to all that goes on in our school.

Services
The school is a co-educational primary school for pupils aged from 3 to 11 years old. There are approximately 300 children in full-time school and in addition some children enjoy a part-time nursery place. The school has served the community of the Fishergate area for over 100 years, since its opening in 1895.
My name is Jackie Hudson and I am the Chair of Governors. I have had three children through Fishergate School and have been on the Governing Body for 9 years. The Governing Body is comprised of parent representatives, staff, members of the local community and Local Authority representatives. We meet together twice each term to share in the leadership of the school.
There is a wide range of information and documentation which schools are required to publish on their school's website by the Department for Education. If you require paper copies of any of this information, please contact the school office. These will be provided free of charge. We have collected much of the key documentation about our school, such as policies, into this area of the website.
Our Safeguarding team is Tina Clarke, Dani Rees, Lisa Solanki and Jackie Hudson. If you have any concerns about a child or adult at Fishergate School please contact a member of the Safeguarding team immediately.
The school is a key front-line player, working in partnership with other children's services, and therefore staff should always be mindful of local policies and procedures, that must be followed, and which are under the direction of the Local Safeguarding Children's Board and statutory requirements. We work under the guidance of the Department for Education.

The Pupil Premium is funding provided to schools, which is additional to main school funding and is used to raise the attainment of eligible children, close the gap between then and their peers and provide additional opportunities for the child they would otherwise be unable to experience.
It is allocated according to the number of pupils on-roll who are eligible for free school meals (FSM) or have been eligible within the past 6 years, a small amount allocated according to the number of children of service families and an allocation for each pupil has been adopted from care.Children who have been in Local authority care for 1 day or more also receive pupil premium funding.
