History is about real people and real events and we aim to give children the opportunity to develop awareness of the past, and of the ways in which it was different from the present. Historical facts are presented in an interesting and lively manner and where possible children visit places of historical interest, particularly where children can have first-hand experience of life at a particular time in history.
Artefacts, photographs and people talking about their past are also used to enrich their experience. Children will be given opportunities to question, sequence, tell the difference between fact and story and discuss feelings of what it would have been like to have lived in other times and cultures.

Establishing trusting and respectful relationships is the key to all we do at Oakwood Infant and Nursery School. They take time, patience and something we call "bothered-ness." That means taking the time to listen and take notice of each child and what is important to them, ensuring they feel valued and that they belong.
Children in EYFS follow the Foundation Stage curriculum which allows them to experiment, investigate and make sense of the world around them through play. They will have access to many exciting first-hand experiences, both self-initiated and adult-led, to enable the children to develop knowledge, understanding and key skills in all areas of learning which provide a sound basis for later education.
This year the children will build on the skills and understanding they gained in the Foundation Stage. The children will be exploring, imagining, experimenting and problem solving through play to access the National Curriculum through carefully planned provision opportunities. The Blackbirds are being taught by Mr Moore, on a Monday to Wednesday, and Mrs Oyston on Thursday and Friday.
Our School Council represents the views of all our pupils. It gives children the opportunity to make their voices heard and feel part of the whole school community. Our school council currently has 12 members, 2 pupils from each class in Year 1 and 2 who have been nominated by their class. Each class is given a book in which all school council topic/discussions are recorded these are then feedback to the class which they then discuss.
