Traditional values and good manners do not cost a thing, don't you agree? If you're looking for an independent veterinary practice that maintains the personal approach you love, then visit Abbey Vets today. Abbey Vets is a family managed veterinary centre that was established in 1975. Practice principal Tony Duffy still runs the practice today, along with his wife Sheila and daughter Kim.
It was originally started as a 'one vet, one receptionist' practice and has grown dramatically over the past 39 years as a result of its increasing popularity. There are now eight centres spread throughout Barnsley and North Sheffield; the team has grown to include 12 vets, who are ably supported by 12 nurses and 21 receptionists.

Save money and pay monthly for your pet's essential preventative care with our Pet Health Club. Are you looking for a new, easy and cost effective way to spread the price of your pet's essential healthcare over 12 months? Pet Health Clubs are an ideal way to save money while also ensuring your pet receives everything they could possible require.
Give your new best friend the best possible start in life with a free kitten or puppy health check. Welcoming a new puppy or kitten into your family can be a really exciting time. You're looking forward to building a relationship with your new friend, while preparing everything he or she needs to have a long and comfortable future with you.
However, microchipping isn't just for dogs, so if you have a cat, rabbit, bird or even a tortoise, it's a great idea to get them chipped too. A pet microchip is an electronic device the size of a grain of rice, which is inserted under the skin between your pet's shoulder blades using a device. Its biocompatible glass covering prevents it from being rejected from the body, and your pet's tissue will grow around it to stop it moving under the skin.
Looking after your pet can be a huge responsibility and sometimes some sound advice and guidance can be really helpful. That's why our fully qualified nurses offer a comprehensive range of clinics from puppy socialisation through to senior pet health checks. Below are a few examples of the we can provide.

Had a first visit today as a new client at darton branch for my 2 male guinea pigs. Hat can i say! Superb service was seen promptly and welcomed by receptionist Donna who was fantastic in person as well as on the phone and best of all the treatment was half the price of my old vets. I couldn't believe it! I'm so glad to have found a vet who carries out treatments properly and doesn't rob me blind. Thankyou!

My miniture Dachund Had her teeth Cleaned and polished at Abbey vets a couple of weeks ago, they did a good job as her teeth was white again and tarter free (she is 12 years)
However what does CONCERN ME is that on more than 3 occasions they tried to persuade me to have some of her teeth extracted with the procedure on examination before the tartar was removed, though she had no noticable problems with her teeth and her appetite was good ( dogs go off thier food if there is a tooth problem) i was adament Thelma did not need any teeth out but i said i would review it if there is a specific problem

Really friendly place. Visited a couple of times with my new dog Treacle. Macarena, the vet, has a lovely approach and Treacle seemed happy enough. A deep clean of her teeth was required and she had to be aneasthetised so was there for the day. Treacle now has beautiful white teeth! There is also a follow-up appt this morning, and before that a phone call to check on her wellbeing. The girls on reception are welcoming and will give advise and help wherever they can.

Read an x-ray wrong claiming my dog had minor arthritis in the leg he was limping on but turned out it was on the other leg that was fine, then forgot to take out the stitches which was the main reason for our visit. Had an x-ray done, originally told their was no concerns then on the second visit i was told they dont look at any other joints in the x-ray other than the hip? Always a different vet no consistency. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
