Commanding superb views over Monsal Dale, a valley in an area of Derbyshire's Peak District known as the White Peak, the Monsal Head Hotel offers guests good food, with well priced seasonal menus, real ales from local micro breweries, a large outdoor seating area, and 7 en-suite bedrooms. The Hotel and Coaching Inn are in one of the most popular beauty spots in Derbyshire, with views over the valley and its famous viaduct, and a short distance from Chatsworth Estate, Ashford in the Water, Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock.
Services
The Hotel currently has seven bedrooms in total - All of which are en-suite and equipped with a television, telephone, complimentary welcome pack, and tea and coffee making facilities. After a good nights sleep in the country air, guests can submit a request for continental breakfast to be served in their room, or they may drift down at their leisure to enjoy a more traditional English breakfast in the Longstone Restaurant*.
The spacious Longstone Restaurant, situated within the main hotel, offers guests a traditional dining experience with a tranquil atmosphere and excellent customer care. The menus make use of quality vegetables, and fresh meat & game sourced from local award-winning butchers. The menus change seasonally and are supplemented by a daily specials board which makes extensive use of fresh fish.
The Stable Bar, as befits its name, has a somewhat rustic ambience, and retains many of its original period features such as the sloping flag floor and the horse stalls, in which customers now sit amidst horse tack & hay rack.
The building's origin is a little uncertain, however it was part of The Railway Hotel, which was rebuilt around the late 1800's early 1900's from an earlier Inn on the site called, The Bulls Head - We know nothing of the origins of this building, but a stone carving of a Bulls Head, taken from the original pub, is still in place at the Hotel - See if you can find it!

Popped in for lunch on a drive around the area. Passed by during the summer and it looked popular so we thought we'd give it a try. It was a good decision, friendly, good menu selection, located in a converted stable with many original features preserved. We both chose the ploughman's which was very generous. Nice thick slices of ham, pork pie, a good wedge of mature cheddar, a nice chutney and salad. Considering that it was quite busy, it only took about 10 minutes to arrive. It's a shame we didn't have our dog with us. I'm sure she would have helped polish it off. It's worth noting that The Monsal

Had a great 60th birthday get together here for my sister Deb. Family joined us so we had a party of 7. Stable room full of nostalgia, and original horse tack decorates the room.
Ken was a brilliant host he clearly works very hard managing the running of the bar and hotel. The newly refurbished en-suite rooms are very nice and
the views over Monsal are truly beautiful!
The food was excellent for our evening meal and such generous portions, service spot on!
Breakfast was so good, and again so much delicious food! I'm vegan and they catered very well for me, so that was an added bonus! However

The view here is spectacular however I chose to come to this restaurant as the website specified any dietary requirements could be catered for without prior notice including coeliac, vegan etc.
Unfortunately this wasn't really the case and the waiter wasn't very understanding. I have a number of chronic health conditions that are severe and disabling and due to taking medications I have developed food intolerances. I can't eat added sugar or wheat and also have to avoid meat. The only vegetarian option was a gnocci containing both cheese and wheat so I'm unsure how they would

I'd jumped over one too many stiles that day and was definitely in need of refreshment and recharging! Whether you've also had a hard day's hiking in the hills, or arts-n-crafts shopping in nearby Bakewell, a drink at the Stables Bar here is a welcome rest stop.
It's a classic cosy country pub, on the small side, and we warmed ourselves by the fire enjoying a mix of local ales, gin, wine and a cup of tea among us (separately obviously!). They had a decent enough selection to satisfy the beer connoisseurs of the group, and the service is friendly and welcoming - happy to bring

This is a very popular place for tourists and in the summer it gets very crowded,
It has a good range of local real ales which are served well.
However. The food is terrible. It is overpriced, poor quality and in the case of the burger we had, just disgusting.
It seems their strategy is to use the cheapest ingredients and charge top price for them. Everything is served with large amounts of salad to fill the plate up.

Very nice location, with potentially the best view in Derbyshire. Service here is always prompt, with a nice selection of ales and an excellent menu, which verges on the pricey side but justifies it with the quality of the food. Specialities include The Monsal Wellington at £14.95 or the very good steak melt - a cheaper option - at £8.70
