The Peacock at Rowsley, originally a manor house, is a boutique Peak District hotel located in the heart of Derbyshire. Close to the market town of Bakewell and a stone's throw from Chatsworth House, the hotel offers an excellent base for exploring the Peak District. The hotel is part of the Haddon Estate and enjoys close links with Haddon Hall where The Peacock owners, Lord and Lady Edward Manners, currently reside.
Services
The Peacock at Rowsley has been a hotel since the 1830s and is part of the Haddon Estate, owned by Lord and Lady Edward Manners who live at nearby Haddon Hall. This luxury Peak District hotel began life as a manor house in the late 1600s and has been a beacon of hospitality ever since. Located in the beautiful Peak District National Park, the family-owned hotel is an ideal base from which to explore and discover all that the area has to offer.
Few Country House Hotels match up to the pedigree of The Peacock at Rowsley. Dating from 1652, The Peacock is furnished with antiques and set in beautiful gardens leading down to the banks of the River Derwent, where you might enjoy a spot of trout fishing. Our two delightful conference rooms offer stunning views over the garden which leads down to the River Derwent.
The Peacock at Rowsley is located in the heart of the Peak District, an area greatly loved by all who visit for its landscapes, history and outdoor leisure. Home to the country's first ever National Park, the Peak District is a superb place for a break. Combining an unrivalled landscape with fascinating historic attractions, including numerous cultural delights, there is something for all ages and interests.
Here are a few hand picked circular walks directly from the Peacock's front door taking in some of the best Derbyshire countryside. They are proper walks which mostly avoid roads; are not too challenging and very beautiful. A 10k circular walk from the Peacock exploring Stanton Moor, with fabulous views in all directions.
Gastronomy sits at the core of our hotel. Our restaurant team have been the proud bearers of three AA rosettes - the top ten percent in the country - for a number of years. We offer both an indulgent, fine dining menu and a more relaxed bar menu to suit most tastes or moods. The key behind each dish served at The Peacock is seasonal, quality ingredients - something Head Chef Dan Smith is passionate about.

Cancelled my partner’s birthday dinner reservation that we had for weeks on the day due to staffing shortages. Presumably you would have known about these before the actual date. Had to scramble to find any other reservation. Exceptionally poor communication.

Main meal was passable but didn’t justify the price. The sweets, although given fancy titles were poor. The chocolate chambaux was just heavy fudge cake and the cold rhubarb and rice contained rock hard lumps in it. Not good. Won’t be going again.
