Your hosts, Gemma & Shaun, welcome you to the all-new Carpenters Arms. With plenty of character and really friendly, cheerful staff, The Carpenter's Arms has a good mix of both locals and visitors. It is comfortable and understated with stools, lots of tables and a roaring log fire in wintertime. And pubs don't come in settings much better than that of The Carpenters Arms, Burghclere, either, which overlooks Watership Down, the inspiration for the famous story and film.

Great family and dog friendly pub. Food is not the cheapest but is superb quality. Have eaten here several times and never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Have great indoor and covered outdoor eating spaces. The pizza oven is an impressive feature and looking forward to sampling at the next opportunity.

Nice place overall. Stayed one night in annexe. Could have been lovely but room was odd. No wardrobe just a pole with hangers, very ramshackle no other storage . Lovely original fireplace which was obscured by spare bed and used as storage for iron, ironing board and hairdryer. Toilet roll holder had fallen off the wall and not replaced.
The food was good but a bit stodgy. Breakfast was not included and residents were expected to pay extra for tea or coffee so we made our own and carried it to the restaurant.
This is a place of missed opportunity, could be wonderful but needs someone to see the

Lovely staff and excellent food. The accommodation however was filthy. Dust everywhere. Awful mattress, which had to turn over. No mattress or pillow protector. Door to shower room did not shut at all. Old and very tired garden furniture which should have been on a skip. Brambles all over so completely unusable. We understood, when we paid the bill, that the owners had only been there 9 weeks but the dirt was inexcusable. some of the dining chairs filthy and many dead flies on the window ledge. No discount offered, which was disappointing.

My son and family took myself and my wife for Sunday lunch as a treat. I was highly impressed with the food and the friendly service, normally if I order a roast the meat is over cooked the veg soggy and roast potatoes burnt to a crisp. All parts of the roast were spot on, even the gravy tasted like it was made from scratch. The portions were generous too. Will go back again.
