We believe our role in the community is to be the first contact parents have with the educational ladder. To carry this out effectively we have a team of very experienced staff, who have access to support and the latest developments in childcare through our membership of the Pre-school Learning Alliance.
We also rely on the involvement of our families to help us continue developing, whether this is through our parent led Committee, involvement at Pre-school or informal contact. St Andrew's Pre-School is a charity formed as an alliance between parents and staff based in St Andrew's Church Hall in Caversham Heights.

Services
St Andrew's Pre-school prides itself on providing a safe, caring and inclusive environment where children will develop to their full potential. We believe self-esteem and confidence are reinforced by praise and encouragement, allowing our children to become more independent and self-reliant as they progress through Pre-school.
The children select from the various activities on offer. We follow an "Open Door" policy which means the children can access the outside play area/garden each day. Some activities will be adult led and adult initiated, but the majority of activities will be child led, based on interests, experiences and extending play over the week.
The Characteristics of Effective Learning and the prime and specific areas of Learning and Development are all interconnected. The Unique Child reaches out to relate to people and things through the Characteristics of Effective Learning, which move through all areas of learning.
The ways in which the child engages with other people and their environment - playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically - underpin learning and development across all areas and support the child to remain an effective and motivated learner. The Prime areas are fundamental, work together and move through to support development in all other areas.

All 3 and 4 year old children are entitled to claim a free part-time early years place from the start of the term following their third birthday. Through the Government and Reading Borough Council, 15 hours per week of funding is available for 38 weeks of the year and can be split between St Andrew's Pre-school and another early years provider.
All registrations are managed by our Pre-school Administrator, Tracy Donaldson. Details are provided below. For postal registrations, we kindly ask, and strongly recommend, that you also e-mail us, so we know to expect your paperwork. Please note that you will need to select Business Account when setting Pre-school up as a payee.
