You and your pet start your Physio-Vet journey with a detailed assessment, where your animal's movement, spent, joint function, mobility & co-ordination is assessed. From this, we develop a unique treatment plan, which may include water hydrotherapy, acupuncture, exercise programs or manual therapy, surgery or further investigation.
Hydrotherapy involves controlled and specific exercises carried out in water, and is often recommended for patients recovering from orthopaedic surgery, injury, and for those with chronic mobility problems. The buoyancy of water makes for a low impact form of exercise which is kind to painful joints.
Manual therapy and massage are two techniques which make use of the hands for therapeutic effect. There are however, important differences between the two techniques and how they are used to treat and rehabilitate pets. Massage manipulates skin, muscle and other soft tissues through the rhythmical application of pressure.
Acupuncture originated as an ancient Chinese therapy used for treating many conditions. The Chinese have known for centuries of its therapeutic effects, believing it to work by tapping into the body's energy lines or 'meridians'. Acupuncture has moved into the mainstream of complimentary therapies, being used worldwide since scientific studies have proven its efficacy.
