St. Matthew's is a maintained Co-Ed Primary School situated in a beautiful, idyllic setting in Drumsurn. Our school is bright, spacious and very well equipped both inside and out.

Services
A new, purpose built, modern school with five classrooms, an assembly hall and a canteen had been erected by John Coyle, contractor, from Dungiven. The new school had been built to replace the old primary school, which stood immediately above it on the same grounds, Gelvin Primary School, which had served the community well for the previous sixty-five years.
St. Matthew's Primary School is an all-inclusive learning community dedicated to nurturing the intellectual, physical, spiritual, moral, social and emotional development of each individual child. The Governors and Staff of St Matthews's believe the school to be a vital part of the Catholic Community.
At St. Matthew's we are delighted to be involved in the Shared Education project with three other schools-St. Shared Education involves the sustained provision of opportunities for children and young people from different communities and backgrounds to learn together both in and out of school.'
Staff work together to plan, team-teach and evaluate learning across the curriculum to enhance coverage for every child in all four schools, particularly the areas of PDMU, STEM/The World Around Us, ICT and Numeracy.The aims of Shared Education are to develop friendships and promote learning through shared educational activities.

St. Matthew's PTA (Parent Teachers Association) are a strong, enthusiastic, hard-working team of parents and teachers of St. Matthew's Primary School who give up a little of their time during the school year to help us fundraise, to make a real difference to our children's school life by providing events, equipment and experiences for all our children which could not be otherwise be provided from the normal school budget.
School ends each day at 2.30pm for all Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils and for Primary 3 pupils 2:30pm each day until Halloween. Otherwise, school ends at 3.00pm. Breakfast Club For all the 'early birds' we operate breakfast from 8am to 8.40am every day. Further details about this and all other 'After School' clubs can be found in our 'After Schools' section.
