We are enormously proud of the school's rich history which has laid down foundations for academic excellence. We are equally proud of our innovative approach to educating girls in the 21st century, incorporating the benefits of the traditional with the modern. Our small classes allow for personalised individual attention to each child and the academic successes of our children are a testimony to their excellent teaching and to their very own desire and drive to excel.Standards are high and expectations are great.

Harvington school opened in 1890 as Heidelberg College, a kindergarten school run by two sisters, Misses Watson. The School was named after the birthplace of Miss Chrystabel Watson's Mentor, and remained Heidelberg College until the first world war when in 1915 the staff and parents took the decision to rename the school, and Harvington was born.
Children can start in nursery from the term that they are 3 years old and then move up to transition in the September after they turn 4 years old. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum where children's learning is planned for in terms of prime and specific areas of development. The prime areas are important because they lay the foundations for children's success in all other areas of learning and of life.
Children move from our early years onto the key stage one section of our Prep School; years 1, 2 and 3. Children are provided with an excellent start to their formal education with an exciting and stimulating curriculum. In key stage one we start the specialist teaching of mathematics and English. This is alongside specialist teaching in French, PE, drama, art and music.
Children continue through our Prep School from key stage 1 into key stage 2; Years 4, 5 and 6. Teaching and learning in Key Stage 2 prepares the girls both emotionally and educationally for entrance examinations into secondary school. We continue to provide specialist teaching in mathematics, English, science, French, PE, art, drama and music with the humanities, RE, ICT and PSHCE being taught by the class teacher.
At Harvington Prep School we recognise that all children are individuals, with different areas of strength and weakness. Our class teachers work closely with the director of studies and head of learning support, monitoring the achievements and progress of each child.
We aim for each child to become independent and resilient learners who are able to achieve their personal potential which means that some children will need extra support and some will need their learning extended beyond that of their peers.Girls are identified as being gifted or talented when they consistently perform at a level beyond that of their peers.

A school with ambition for all of its pupils. Great school that identifies the potential of its pupils and develops them to achieve at the highest academic level through its highly qualified professional teaching staff. The head is very passionate about the school. Absolutely delightful place. It is like a small family. My two girls are very happy there.

Harvington is a wonderful school. The individual child is at the centre of everything it does. It does not only select the brightest children and get good results it gets the best out of every child. Class sizes are small and it is a relatively small school but it is a big family. The facilities and space are fantastic for a prep school, lunches are cooked fresh on site, the drama and music departments in particular are outstanding, clubs are diverse and change regularly. There are regular trips including one to France and a residential trip in Year 6. There is a swimming gala, netball matches
