The Bay Horse Inn, West Woodburn, is a delightful 18th century coaching inn built in mellowed sandstone, nestling by a stone bridge over the River Rede in the Cheviot Hills of Northumberland. This is the place to stop on your journey: to rest, drink, eat well and relax in a warm friendly, informal atmosphere.

Our bedrooms are all en-suite and the garden stretches down to the river and contains a grassed area equipped with garden tables. We have good parking at the inn, including space for coaches by appointment. The Bay Horse Inn stands on the A68 route Darlington to Edinburgh, within easy reach of the commercial centres of the North East.
Services
At The Bay Horse Inn our menus offer an unusually wide and extensive range of dishes carefully prepared from the best local meats, fish and vegetables. Visitors are welcome to choose a tasty snack or to dine in style with a bottle of fine wine. For vegetarians and vegans we can offer an interesting alternative selection.
The Bay Horse Inn sits by the River Rede in the quiet Northumberland village of West Woodburn. The Rede Valley and its surrounding area is known for its great natural beauty, peace, tranquility and wide open spaces. Northumberland is England's most sparsely populated county, lying at the juncture of the Cheviot and Pennine Hills.
A recently refurbished shepherd's home, Poppy's Holiday Cottage is nestled on an incline and boasts spectacular views of the Coquet valley. A prime location for those wishing to explore the towering green hills of Northumberland National Park, this cottage represents luxury accommodation secluded miles away from almost anyone other than the farmhouse next door.

Staff and food was 5 star ⭐️ however, the noise coming from the bar when your trying to sleep was atrocious, you could hear other people flushing their toilet & a generator type of noise. Stopped here for 2 nights and got barely any sleep, the bathroom in our room was like out of a caravan. Going into the pub for an evening meal wasn’t inviting at all, loads of locals sat saying things about us wearing masks (which is our choice to do so) and making rude comments, which made us not want to go down and eat anything. Overall 3/5 stars

We had to wait 45 minutes for a menu after being seated. The starter was greasy and the main was a little bland. Beat thing about the place was the chips. The single member of staff was nice but slow.

Clean. Staff very friendly and accommodating. As were the many local customers. Very generous helpings of home-cooked tasty food. Beer good. Cider limited in choice.
We found the room too warm and the shower idiosyncratic (either boiling hot or freezing cold with short spells of just right in-between.)

We ate here twice in two days - friendly staff, haggis was delicious and flavoursome, nice wine selection, vegetarian options were plentiful too. Beautiful to sit under the oaks outside. Dog friendly too!
