Have used this hotel on several occasions over the last few years without any problems. However on this occasion I had to request another room as the bedroom was cold due to a faulty radiator valve. I am not aware of a lift to the 2nd floor and reception is up a flight of steps. I would not recommend it to anyone with mobility problems.

We went for a meal at the restaurant and had such a lovely evening. The staff were so welcoming and laid back about us putting a few decorations up for an anniversary celebration. Can’t wait to go back. Had a really lovely night. Especially good service by Phoebe! :)

It takes a great team with an even greater captain to run a successful hotel. The Gibside is a hidden gem with a high standard of excellence. Free carparking couldn't be easier and just a few steps to the hotel entrance. The lady on reception was charming and very helpful. My room had a huge bed with pillows to die for, so I had a great night's sleep. The ensuite was modern and there was plenty of hot water. I'm not a huge breakfast eater, but really you could have anything you want. The dining room was pristine and, like everywhere else, spotless. I wish I could have stayed longer at the Gibside

Sunday lunch excellent. Might be helpful to offer smaller portions for those of us with diminishing appetites.
Access difficult and clearer internal signage would be helpful.
Lovely staff.

Had a 2 nights stay, we arrived at about 1 ish to check in but the lady on reception told us the room wasn’t ready, even though we requested an early check in. We ended up having lunch upstairs which was a bit pricey at nearly £16 for 2 sandwiches and 2 soft drinks but we were hungry. We came back down at just after 2 to be told the room still isn’t ready. We wanted to go out so asked if we could leave our luggage. We checked back in later that evening. A bit of a faff about really 🙄 but couldn’t be bothered anymore. We weren’t given any information on check in like breakfast times

I will strongly recommend this hotel if you love to wasting time. This hotel will cancel your booking by a one-sided decision which totally ruin your plan even you have fully paid already and received an email of confirmation. I am looking for another hotel right now, Cheers!

First the pros., the staff are very friendly and accommodating and the food in the Bistro was very good. The cons are that it was advertised as dog friendly hotel and we made a booking. We found out on arrival that there was a £20 surcharge for the dog. Had we known this at the time of booking we probably would have booked a Travelodge which would have been considerably cheaper than around £100 for an OK room in a hotel which needs refurbishing. I would eat there again but probably wouldn't stay.

I booked the junior suite on the 2nd of August for mine and my wife’s anniversary. This was the room we stayed in on our wedding night. Only to be contacted by the hotel today to tell us that the person staying has extended their stay so will have to cancel our booking! Absolutely shocking! Will never stay again. No way to run a business.

I made a HUGE mistake booking here, I deiced to pay £50 more to stay here than another hotel, double bed increased to king size bed, 2 star to 3 star hotel, I though it would be worth the extra.
king size bed was 2 single beds.
dated key card locks that did not work, thankfully my phone could bypass all the locks and I set it to master key mode to unlock every room in that side of the hotel.
free wifi was 0.35mb for the whole hotel, the bar had better toilet paper than the rooms, the shower temp had a mind of it's own, at the lowest setting i almost got burnt.
free car park is for 8 cars
