Pennington Nursery has been providing nursery care in the Swarthmoor/Pennington/Ulverston area since 1993. It started off, many years before this as a parent and toddlers group in Pennington Reading Rooms. Along the years we changed our name to Pennington Nursery, became a registered Charity, developed a board of Trustees and became the provider of wrap around after-school provision for Pennington infants and junior School.
If you think you would like to support the great work being done in the community, by the Nursery, If you feel you have the time, skill, but more importantly the enthusiasm to be part of the ongoing success of the Nursery please do speak to us. The Nursery provides full wrap around care between the hours of 7:30 am and 6:00pm for children aged between 3 and 11 years and for children under 3 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00pm in term time.

Our philosophy is that every child should be recognised as a unique individual and the relationships the children develop with each other and with experienced adults are identified as central to their happiness which in turn, lays the best foundations for their future.
Our aim is to provide a caring and stimulating environment in which everyone has the desire to succeed and to develop strong partnerships with home, the community and the setting to provide firm foundations on which our children's development can build. Each child will acquire positive attitudes, values and beliefs while developing and understanding of, and respect for, other people's cultures.

Our staff training is ongoing and details are available to view in the front entrance hall. A key person has a special responsibility for a small group of children. Having a key person ensures the children has someone they can bond with can feel happy and secure within the nursery environment.
The key person is also responsible for the sharing of information with parents, carers and other settings or professionals who may be involved in your child's time in Nursery. Each key person keeps development records on each of the children in their key group and you are welcome to see their development record at any time.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is primarily aimed at practitioners. The EYFS provides information on a child's development, effective practice, examples of play activities to promote play and learning, guidance on planning and resourcing and meeting diverse needs.
The framework also reflects the diversity of types of organised provision for children in this age group and recognises the importance of wider issues including equal opportunities and relationships with parents.Nursery and Little Gems follow the framework EYFS which has been devised by the government to support children from 0-5 years.

Our Policies and procedures are available to see in the entrance hall, if you wish to receive copies please inform us and we will be happy to send them to you. Please contact the nursery if your child is ill. Illnesses such as chicken pox, conjunctivitis, sickness and diarrhea etc all have incubation periods.
It is our intention to make our nursery accessible to all children and families. Waiting lists are arranged in birth order, although we may take into account siblings that already attend the Nursery when places are Limited. A child who is tense or unhappy will not be able to play or learn properly, so it is important for parents / carers and Nursery staff to work together to help the child feel confident and secure in the group.
