Colcot Primary School is an exciting, happy, vibrant and welcoming school situated in Barry. The school was opened in 1952 and has two main buildings housing the Nursery, Early Years and Key Stage Two pupils. Currently there are 320 pupils on roll and the nursery provides 27 places for each half day session, the children can start the nursery in the term after their third birthday.
The school is surrounded by fabulous grounds and has magnificent views over the Vale of Glamorgan. The large fields offer a wonderful opportunity to enhance the children's learning by supporting aspects of the curriculum. The children have plenty of space to enjoy different sporting activities during the day and as part of the extensive after school clubs on offer.

Some of us are Reception children and some of us are Year 1. Our topic this half term is ' Superheroes'. We will be having a Superhero day to start the topic and the children will be invited to come to school dressed as their favourite Superhero. We read regularly in school so please bring reading folders to school every day and practise regularly at home.
Please listen to your child read as often as possible and send their reading folder into school every day. We have spelling tests on a Monday, so please help your child to learn their spellings. We go outside every day, so please ensure that your child has a waterproof coat in school, and has a hat and sun cream on during sunny weather.
Our 1st topic is Predator, where we are looking at what makes a good predator. We have already been on a trip to the Welsh Hawking Centre where we saw a number of birds of prey. Despite the wet weather, we were able to see some of the birds in flight. They were magnificent. We will soon be creating our ultimate predator.
Our PE day is Thursday - kits should be kept in lockers. Weekly spelling tests are on Friday. Big Maths tests are every Thursday. Please help your child by reading with him/her regularly, and by practising spellings and times tables. Our topic is currently 'Predator'. We have been learning about predatory animals of the land, sea and sky.
