Romilly Schools have served the children of Barry since 1893. The school has a long tradition and distinguished history and enjoys a special place in the community. We strongly believe in continuing and building upon these foundations in partnership with the community. We place the children at the heart of our school.
We consider it a privilege to provide a stimulating and creative curriculum, that is firmly based on first hand meaningful learning experiences. We pride ourselves on the broad, balanced and full education we provide for all children - the high standards of teaching and learning are a credit to the hard work of both staff and children.

Services
It can be said that every child is special and unique. Every child is an individual with particular strengths, abilities and needs. Some children will require extra help, in order to cope with specific learning difficulties. Our special needs teacher (ALNCO) is available to co-ordinate the special needs provision in the school and to assist individual children.
Children's progress is monitored closely through day to day assessment by the teachers. Pupil's ongoing progress is recorded using INCERTS, as well as by standardised assessment tests undertaken throughout the school. Our Foundation Phase Teacher Assessment results show the percentage of children achieving Outcome 5 or above.
Romilly Primary is part of the healthy schools network and as such we pay a great deal of attention to the development of pupils health, Social and Psychological wellbeing. As a result of the focus of the school on health and wellbeing we have been awarded healthy schools status for the last 4 years.
Pupil Voice is an important part of life for our children. We want each child to be able to contribute to their own learning and the development of the school. As part of our commitment to this we have a thriving School Council. Each class can elect one child to our School Council.
The school Council is currently engaged on a range of projects including the 'Funky Dragon' project working alongside children from neighbouring schools to improve playgrounds. The school council meets regularly and the children give their views and ideas about school life, these then help to feed into the School Improvement Plan - our action plan for the year ahead.

The purpose of this Strategic Equality Plan is to describe what we are doing at Romilly Primary School to meet our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, including the Public Sector Equality Duty (general duty) and the specific duties for Wales. The public sector equality duty requires us to think about the needs of people with characteristics protected under the Equality Act 2010.
