Services
Here at St. Mary's Nursery and Primary School, Killyclogher, we serve the families in our school community by providing an outstanding education of the highest possible quality. Our nursery and primary school setting strives to offer pupils a curriculum that develops the whole child in a safe, secure, happy, caring and stimulating environment.
We in St. Mary's Primary School believe that language is central to learning. The effective use of language is the concern of all our teachers across the curriculum at a level appropriate to the children's development. This will be reflected in classroom practice through the provision of a coherent programme that integrates all aspects of Language and Literacy - Reading, Writing, Talking, Listening and Thinking Skills.
Here in St. Mary's Numeracy introduces children to concepts, skills and thinking strategies that are essential in everyday life and support learning across the curriculum. It helps children make sense of the numbers, patterns and shapes they see in the world around them. It offers ways of handling data in an increasingly digital world and makes a crucial contribution to their development as successful learners.
Using ICT, along with Communication and Using Mathematics, is one of the three statutory Cross Curricular Skills assessed and reported on using Levels of Progression. Using ICT is about providing pupils with opportunities to acquire, develop, understand, demonstrate and apply ICT concepts and processes appropriately in a variety of contexts across the curriculum.
St. Mary's follows the Jenny Mosley 'Golden Time' approach for positive behaviour reinforcement. St. Mary's uses 'Golden Time' as a positive behaviour management strategy. Research indicates that when Golden Time is fully implemented, teachers tend to spend less time on behavioural issues and more time teaching - so this is a wonderful aid to teaching and learning.
