Goddard At Greenwich
This meal can be traced back through the 1800's and is an important part of London's food history. We pride ourselves on baking the pies fresh daily using locally sourced ingredients and British meat, helping to support our local community.

We are a family run business and hope that not only you receive good quality fresh food at an affordable price but you will also be welcomed by a warm smile, making your whole dining experience an enjoyable one.Goddard's have been serving pie and mash in London for over 130 years. Whilst we stay true to the origins of London pie mash and liquor we also know that it is not to everyone's taste.
Services
The Goddard's Pie and Mash business was founded in 1890 by Alfred Goddard in Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. Alfred worked hard to build up his business and his reputation during the early years when pie mash and liquor shops really started to become popular. Alfred passed the business to his two sons Robert (Bob) and George in 1936.
Pies have been the staple diet of Londoners for centuries and the London 'pie and mash' shops offer a meal that is steeped in history and ingrained in the very fabric of London. Originally, the piemen would carry their pies in trays or small portable ovens to sell them on the streets of London. Early pies were actually filled with eels from the Thames, the eels would have been spiced and stewed in stock prior to being used as a pie filling.
If you want traditional pie and mash then it can only be our handmade minced beef pie with mash and liquor. Made with 100% quality British minced beef. We have handmade 100% British steak pies, 100% British chicken breast pies, vegetarian & vegan pies to suit all tastes. If there's any room left after your pie and mash then treat yourself to a Goddard's handmade dessert.
Goddards have been making and selling London pie and mash since 1890 and we are passionate about offering our customers the very best of this fine London dish. The meat in our pies is delivered several times a week by our butchers, also a family business. Our meat must be fresh (not frozen) and 100% British.
Our pie and mash restaurant can seat around 125 people across the ground floor and first floor. The first floor is self-contained and will hold around 75 diners so it's perfect for pie and mash parties and functions! There's also a smaller self-contained room on the ground floor which can accommodate approximately 25 people.

Recommend if you’re trying mash & pie for the first time. I got the cheese and onion with gravy. Was a good size but lacked seasoning/salt for me. Good experience & friendly service.

Delicious. I can't wait to go back and try all the other flavours of pies. It's not expensive. And the staff were very friendly.
Don't make the same mistake I made for dessert. I got the sticky toffee pudding. I should have gotten a crumble or a fruit pie or bread and butter pudding which are all handmade and it was even written on the specials board. But I chose 1 of the 2 desserts not handmade. It was okay the sticky toffee pudding. But I had buyers remorse. Ah well. Next time I go I'll definitely get a crumble or fruit pie.

After walking for hours in Greenwich visiting the Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House, I stumbled upon this place while walking back to take the boat to Central London. So happy that I decided to stop by for a quick bite.
Prices are beyond reasonable for London standards, and the staff is beyond friendly. I got the traditional pie and mash with liquor, and some tea… all for £5 too! The pie was very fresh, and I had never tried pie with liquor before, but really loved it. Would love to come here if I ever visit Greenwich again!

Fresh pies, good prices, I'll come back. Had the traditional pie and mash with liquor, wife had the lamb with gravy. I preferred the lamb with gravy as it was more meaty. Next time will try the other ones and will probably go for the gravy rather than the liquor though.

My first visit and most definitely not my last. Traditional mince pie, mash, gravy and cup of tea for £5.00, what is there not to like.
I will try the liquor on my next visit, with vinegar and pepper!
It's just nice to sit at a proper table, with china plate, cup and cutlery.
Bon appetit 😊

Home made delicious pies. The portions are generous, the food is delicious and the price is small. Highly recommend to go for the Special - peppered steak pie & mash. Authentic vibe and cheerful service... But "badly behaved children beware", you risk to be made into pies! 🤣
