Known for being one of Bath's longest established independent restaurants, the Olive Tree - located below the individualistic Queensberry Hotel on Russel Street - was awarded its first Michelin Star in 2018. This distinction is in addition to the restaurant's 3 AA Rosette status. Need somewhere to rest your weary head after a night of indulgence and perhaps one or two of our finest wines?
You needn't stray far as plump pillows, and the finest cotton sheets await in one of our bedrooms. Visit The Queensberry Hotel website to select a suitably stylishly characterful abode. You will find an unusual edge to what you will have once thought simple flavours - both the SIX and NINE menus are comprised of beautiful, fresh, seasonal dishes.

It does look like poor form, we agree, not Queensberry Rules at all. But, as unseemly violence goes, it's not the most mindless; there's a principle at stake, and the right to a lasting legacy. Allow us to introduce Miss Cherry Beckford and Miss Olive Snodgrass. After whom is a fabulous restaurant to be named?
If the original Marquis of Queensberry could fashion twelve rules to create decency and order from the potential chaos of boxing, then surely we - in honour of the man after whom we are named - can do likewise for hospitality? Rules prevent us from drowning in confusion and mayhem. They codify and simplify: the rules of nature (water will not run uphill); the rules of decency (no, after YOU ); and now, the New Queensberry Rules.
Junior Sous Chef- The Olive Tree Restaurant at The Queensberry Hotel is looking for an ambitious chef to join our dedicated kitchen team. Breakfast and Room Service still covered 7 days a week whilst closed. Career progression within an ambitious privately owned company, with various training opportunities.
We love to work with other local businesses. Being independent and part of a strong Bath and West Country economy matters to us, so there is more than talking about it, we do it.
Whether it is food businesses, casinos, tour operators, florists or specialists in adrenaline sports, if they are good at what they do and can help you enjoy Bath even more, then of course we want to point you in their direction (and offer you some great deals at the same time). We try to use local and regional companies, too, to help us with our work, from marketing and websites to all kinds of design.

The Olive Tree can be found below the popular and acclaimed Queensberry Hotel, a beautifully quirky and quirkily beautiful, townhouse hotel. Head Chef, Chris Cleghorn oversees a menu which draws heavily on high-quality local produce.
It might sound like an idle claim (it's something you hear bandied about a lot these days), but Bath is lucky to be surrounded by exceptional, lush farmland; we've taken the time and trouble to build up great relationships with local suppliers of fruit, vegetables, cheeses and meat. The highest compliment we can pay such bounty is to make sure we have an inventive Head Chef fashioning it into a striking, delicious and frequently-changing menu.

Outstanding meal. I ate things that I wouldn't normally think of eating, but each of the 9 courses, along with recommended wines were superb. My personal favourite courses were the scallops, the beetroot, the goats cheese (even though I'm not a vegetarian) but all were absolutely fabulous. The service was second to none too. Fabulous thank you

Went for a celebratory results lunch, disappointed with the food, ordered the monkfish which was extremely salty and when brought up this to the waiter he simply took it away and ignore the issue with no apology , until we asked about it later which he responded ‘sorry the chef agrees it’s too salty’ and didn’t remake it or comp anything…
also was served bread on seeds which were used by another table the day before, during covid to find this out was shocking and unhygienic… same with the chocolate which was served on communal cocoa nibs
later we emailed the restaurant and received

My husband and I came to Bath for a minimoon and booked to stay at the hotel as we'd read great reviews about the restaurant. We had a wonderful evening- I had the six course vegetarian menu and my husband had the meat. Everything on the plate had a purpose and worked together in a harmony of flavour and texture. The chocolate and olive oil dessert was a definite highlight. The staff were all fantastic and delivered an incredibly smooth service- always there to answer questions and help when needed but giving you space to enjoy your meal together. We felt thoroughly spoilt by the end of the night

The Olive Tree has an incredible tasting menu which can be adapted from its 9 courses, to 6 courses or you can just choose a starter, main and dessert.
I ate from the vegan menu and the food was equisite! Would highly recommend.
We didn’t try the wine pairings but many others did and they said they were great.

Great cooking - as exactly as you’d expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. We went for the 6 course menu with wine pairing - the monkfish dish and lamb was delicious. The scallop starter with the granita was one of the best scallop starters we’ve had. However the lunch service felt a little rushed, and the wine taster portions could have been slightly more generous but our waiter definitely showed a good knowledge of the wines. Definitely worth a stop.

We had the 9 dish Taster Menu with the wine pairing. It was absolutely amazing. Every dish was delicious and each wine complimented the food perfectly. The service was second to none and the staff were so informative about the food and wine and so attentive. Could not rate the Olive Tree highly enough.

Our lunch experience was very exquisite. Arrived 15 minutes early but they had our table ready, so we were welcomed straight away. The waiter was nice, addressed us promptly and checked in on us often.
We opted for the 3 course meal lunch, and as a couple we managed to try all items on the menu. The cured trout was really tasty, and beef short ribs very tender and juicy. The sole was soft and light, but less of a highlight. We enjoyed the presentation of the food as well as the introduction of the dished. We also received 3 small complementary side dishes which was a lovely touch.

Hi,
Had a beautiful meal here today.
I took my son for his first Michellin starred meal after all the lock downs and spend a couple of hours with him, just us.
Staff were bloody awesome and could’nt fault… them. They understood our needs and looked after us.
The highlight for me was the monkfish on the bone which was cracking.
Well priced and would revisit. Thank you

Our favourite restaurant, visited for the 3rd time last night for my husbands 30th, and it was just as amazing as ever! We had the 9 course taster and they were able to change a few items I couldn't eat due to being pregnant so I didn't feel like I missed out on anything. Amazing food and service, thank you xx

Great staff who know their food and wine, lovely atmosphere. We had the tasting menu with matched wines, which was presented superbly, everything you’d expect from a fine dinning experience, they really let the… food do the talking, and it spoke volumes! If you are after a slightly more relaxed experience with excellent food, the Olive Tree is the place to go! Top Marks to the team, attentive who weren’t suffocating or over-bearing. Perfect evening.

It’s the only Michelin Star restaurant in Bath. We visited at lunchtime on a Friday not for the first time. There’s a lunchtime menu and also 9 or 6 courses to choose from. There is also the optional wine… flight. We chose the 6 courses which provides the option of trying items you wouldn’t normally try - in our case Eel. It ain’t cheap cos only birds go cheep. Excellent. Well recommended.

Truly an excellent eating experience with an amazing use of local produce every time we visit.
The taster menus are excellent value for money and offer great variety.
As a non fish eater the replacement dishes in the taster where envied by those I was eating with.
The serving team was an great mix of chefs and waiters which always add to the presentation.
The wine flight is a must and don’t forget the desert wines which I loved.

Went on 29/12/20 while Bath was in Tier2 (London/SE in Tier4). Wow - what an experience. The Chef is a genius. Exquisite Taster Menu - caters for Vegetarians & Pescetarians. Ordered a 9Course Taster of each with paired Wines. Of the ~15 unique dishes served between the two of us (some were the same for both of us)... at worst: no complaints; at best: OMG Out of this world, good!! In particular- the Devon Eel with beetroot, the roscoff onion tart with purple sprouting broccoli in beurre blanc. Amazing. Our waiter Jake was a nice bloke and very knowledgeable with the paired wines. The San Marzano

Unlike other Michelin star restaurants we've been to (not snobs promise!) we enjoyed not feeling pressured to get the tasting menu, instead you could choose individual dishes. Saying that, we still had the 5 course tasting menu, but my god, what a taste sensation!
Every dish was savoured and had a taste not experienced before. I also had the wine pairing which was worth getting to maximise the tasting experience.
Ambience was relaxed, staff attentive, and the chef even wrote a birthday card!

Really really fabulous and delicious and savour every bit amazing food! We had the 5 course tasting menus. One vegetarian and one with meat. Both menus were without fault, beautifully cooked and put together. The staff were wonderful and the service thoughtful. Really enjoyed our experience here and loved the whole 3 hour food heaven stay!
