There has been a veterinary practice on our Knowle and Bishopsworth sites since 1980! Since 1999 and until recently the practice has been owned by Paul Vokes MRCVS, who is our clinical director. In recent years the addition of a major extension to our Knowle site enabled us to provide a large airy waiting and reception area, plus two large consulting rooms and a dedicated nurse clinic consulting room.

As well as an in-house laboratory which enables us to rapidly diagnose your pet's condition, we also have a digital x-ray machine so we can be thorough and prompt with treating your pet. You can even see the pictures if you'd like to! We also have a state of the art ultrasound machine and operating theatre with equipment similar to that of a human hospital.

Avon Lodge has now been awarded Cat Friendly clinic certification! We have been awarded GOLD STANDARD at our Wells Road surgery, and bronze standard at our Church Road surgery. Over the past year changes have been made at both branches to improve the care we provide for your cat. This has been achieved via physical modifications to the practice as well as staff training to provide the best care for your cat.
Yes you will. We will send a text message to your mobile phone if we have up to date details, and/or a card reminding you to your home address. If you don't book an appointment after a month of receiving this card, you will get a second reminder. Yes, we charge a flat fee of 9 to check, complete, send and process the payments for your insurance claim.
Pet insurance provides cover for veterinary fees in the event that your pet becomes injured or unwell. It can provide peace of mind that you're in a position to afford all the veterinary care your pet may need. With veterinary medicine employing expensive medical techniques and medication, and with pet owners caring more and more about their pets' health, pet insurance is becoming increasingly popular.
If your insurer asks you to complete your claim online, what we need from you will be greatly simplified. Please note the process may differ between insurers. Attach the clinical history, along with a copy of any payments you've made (you do not have to keep any receipts). Please note the processing of direct claims is discretionary and based on the relationship between the insurer and the clinic.
We've partnered with Video Vets Now so you can speak to a vet from home or out and about - 7 days a week between 8am and 11pm. Consults are 10 mins and cost 24. If your pet needs to be seen by us or Vets Now, your original 24 payment will be refunded. We partnered with Video Vets Now to help you get the advice and reassurance you need, wherever you are.

I have been with Avon Lodge for over 39 years. During that time it has changed ownership but the high standards of care have stayed the same. The staff are friendly and straightforward and I always feel the priority is my per and their needs and never feel I’m being advised to have something done if it’s not necessary. Very kind staff but also straight talking and professional

Everytime we visit Avon Lodge the staff have been welcoming and friendly. It's great that they have separate areas in reception to be more cat friendly too. They are very professional and have talked through any questions and concerns I have, no matter how minor.

I have been taking my dog to Avon lodge since she was a puppy. She is now 8 years old. The vets the vets nurses and the reception staff have always been very kind and gentle with her and very supportive when I was having behaviour problems with her. I would recommend them to anyone new to the area looking for veterinary care for their pets. With costs rising all the time I have also found their prices very good value too.. I've never felt I have been over charged. Thank you

We have been taking our pets (cat and rats) to the Wells Road practice for over 9 years. The practice and people are welcoming and put you right at ease. I can remember the reception staff cooing over our new kitten and complementing us on our name choice. We’ve had a couple of procedures carried out by the practice and our cat is always well looked after and we’re kept informed of potential costs and how she is doing. I’ve taken my daughter with me to some of the annual check ups and the staff are lovely with her too, asking her questions about our animals and even letting her hear our cats

Always excellent service. All the vets we’ve seen have been thorough and kind with my cats who do not like going to the vets.
The pet club offers a great service but it’s not the best value for money with other vets charging less and offering multi pet discounts. I pay more for the pet club each month than I do for my pet insurance. It’s probably only worth it when the cats are kittens.

A clean, welcoming and open vets with allocated parking who always listen well and aim to get you an appointment as soon as possible. They take measures to make sure your pet feels comfortable, such as their cat safe training of staff and cat safe area. They’re very personable and professional, I’m grateful to have found them.

From the receptionists to the vets, this is hands-down a top-rate veterinary practice. I have been taking my pets to them for over 20-years. They are all extremely kind and caring, and have so much patience with distressed animal companions...I'm talking about myself! However high up the practice you go, you'll find the same attitude from them all. Extremely well run and managed by people who genuinely love animals and their humans too.
