Joy Optical was established over 60 years ago, known previously as Sangers, Prospecs and Raz Opticians. Tariq has been at the helm for 33 of those years, changing the name to Joy Optical in 2006, in honour of our beloved receptionist Joy Laurence, who worked with him during that time. Unfortunately, she passed away in her fight against cancer.
Mihaela has been with the practice since 2009 and is a valuable member of the team. Taking care of the reception area, making bookings and dealing with queries and contact lens enquiries. She also helps look after the accounts of the store, keeping the pressure off of Tariq. Mihaela has also just started a 3 year dispensing course, so once finished will be able to assist with the selection and dispensing of spectacles.
Your eyes are a very important part of you, so its vital that you have regular check-ups. It is recommended that every adult has an eye exam every 2 years, or every year if you are a contact lens wearer, or family members have certain health issues. Children are normally recommended to be seen from every 6 months to 18 months depending on each individual case.
In Myopia (short sightedness), the eye is longer than normal or the cornea is too steep, so that light rays focus in front of the retina. Near objects are clear, but distant objects appear blurred. For the most part, this is an inconvenience considering how frustrating it can be to be dependent on contact lenses or spectacles.

It is a delight to visit Joy Optical. The range of interesting, unusual and beautiful frames is fantastic. Tariq has the real skill of judging whether you want to be left to choose your own frames or gently guiding you and listening to feedback. Such a lovely man and such a great experience. I would highly recommend Joy Optical - it is a great find.

Unrivalled service and a team who know what they are doing whilst keeping a healthy balance of professionalism and friendliness. Naimh was impeccable and her experience shone at every step. BRILLIANT! The team at Joy Optical are fantastic. Friendly and professional, I was overjoyed at the skill and workmanship of the gentleman dispenser Tariq. He skilfully repaired two pairs of my TomFord reading glasses. The frames were bent terribly and lenses out after an accident. I thought they were beyond repair but he fixed them beautifully, returning them to practically new. I was overjoyed and so grateful. The other team members were friendly and helpful. Can’t recommend Joy more highly. Thank you Tariq and team!

After cataract surgery on one eye aged 49 my regular optician couldnt get my lenses right for my eyes. After three attempts I felt sick and so dizzy when wearing them but needed them to see. It was awful and really distressing. I didn’t know what to do. Thankfully I was recommending to go to Joys Optical, Tariq the owner was so welcoming and immediately put me at ease. In the very capable hands of Jean Charles who discovered I had a condition called Anaseikonia where my eyescouldn’t work together after the cataract surgery, nobody else spotted this. It is a rather complex thing to correct
