The Cornish Arms is set in the heart of Tavistock at the foothills of Dartmoor in the rolling countryside of Devon. Found in the heart of this Stannary town, The Cornish Arms is so called as it was the last Coaching Inn before Cornwall. A great British pub serving good honest food and drink in warm welcoming surroundings.
Services
The Cornish Arms is a thriving great British pub set on the foothills of Dartmoor in the Stannary town of Tavistock. The focus of The Cornish Arms and the ethos of John, Emma and The Team are to operate a pub which they would love to come to use themselves. A place serving unpretentious food, fantastic beer and wine offering, great value for money and accessible for all to enjoy.
With John's pedigree as a chef the idea was to open an un-pretentious relaxed pub serving the best quality food and drink for all to enjoy - it's now a reality with the pub going from strength to strength. With exciting plans for the future they see the pub developing and evolving further with the help and support of the fantastic team around them.
We serve great tasting dishes with little fuss, classic combinations and lots of flavour. We are committed to sourcing local and seasonal produce but above all it is the quality that counts. Food is served in the main restaurant area, the bar and when the glorious Devon weather permits in the lovely beer garden outside.
Grab a loyalty card and get yourself 5% discount off food and drink before 6pm 7 days a week. Loyalty cards can be purchased at the bar on your next visit for just 2.50. We are looking forward to our gin festival over the August bank holiday. We will be showcasing gin's from around Devon and Cornwall along with favourites from around the globe.
Quirky vintage furnishings, chic fabrics and bold colours create a warm and welcoming feel. Each of ours rooms are individual and unique. There are all complete with ensuite rain shower rooms, divinely comfortable super king beds and luxury St Kitts herbery toiletries. STAG is our Suite-Superior-Ensuite with Bath-and Shower boasting hand made furniture and a luxurious roll top copper bath.

We had not booked at the restaurant but the friendly and knowledgeable staff found us a table and we were looked after royally. The food menu was extensive and the meal was magnificent. I cannot recommend the Cornish Arms at Tavistock highly enough - treat yourselves - you will not regret it.
We have decided to make the Arms our "go to" restaurant.

Review for restaurant
We ate here on the first night of our honeymoon and it was amazing, really set the tone for the rest of the trip :)
I ordered the venison and it was probably one of the best meals I've ever had! So many different flavours and textures, everything was cooked (or not cooked, in the case of the taretare) to perfection and each of the different elements complemented each other - really took me on a flavour journey! My wife had the lamb with whipped feta cream, another incredibly delicious and interesting meal.
The only (small) thing was that the service was very slow to begin

The food was delicious, and the service was very friendly and attentive. Venison and beef fillet were outstanding. We were sat in the dog friendly section, and was very pleased when people kept arriving with dogs that they were all sat in separate sections away from one another. One of our dogs can be reactive to other dogs barking, so this made our visit and ultimately all the other customers visits much more enjoyable as you wouldn't have known that any dogs were there (we appreciate having dogs in eateries is not something everybody agrees with). From the outside, and the decor inside you wouldn

Simply the best pub I’ve ever eaten in and stayed in!.. and I’ve been in a lot! Outstanding hospitality from the moment We arrived to the moment we left. The food was faultless and truly deserves the bib gourmand if not more. We stayed in the Stag room which was jaw dropping- the attention to detail and the scale were more akin to a west London boutique hotel only classier! 10/10 for the Cornish arms team - we will be back!!

It's in the Michelin Guide (don't ya know??) - booking ahead is recommended though on the night of our visit there were plenty of free tables for walk-ins.
The portions were fairly satisfying for nouveau cuisine, whilst my choice (ox cheek) was quite satisfying my wife's (steak and ale suet pudding) was rather bland (to my palette) but she enjoyed it all the same.
Worth a visit.
Serving staff were very friendly and helpful ☺️

The food was lovely however the service did not meet the same level of excellence. The team were polite however I didn't find that they were attentive, my husband asked what bottled beer they had and the waitress was unsure but said she would get someone to come and help us, we finished out main course and still no one came. No one asked how our meal was or if we needed more drinks etc.
It's a shame that this was the standard on the night that we were celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary
