Lockdown is tough, especially on our wellbeing, but there's lots we can do to lighten the impact as we'll learn from these critical webinars. Excellent care from our dedicated team to our diverse community in the heart of St. Albans. The Maltings Surgery has a large team of Doctors and Nurses specialising in a variety of skills.
We encourage continuity at the practice with the doctors running personal lists. I have had to use the advice, prescriptions and referrals to hospitals a number of times and have always been impressed by the friendly and efficient reaction to my requirements.

Services
Our aim at The Maltings is to ensure you have the right medicines, understand how to use them and obtain them in the safest, most efficient way. There are many medicines that can only be obtained with a prescription. Your doctor will advise you if your medicine is to be on 'repeat' or if you need to be seen again for a new prescription.
NHS Health Checks are being offered to people aged between 40 and 74 once every five years. The check is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. If there are any warning signs, then together we can do something about it. By taking early action, you can improve your health and prevent the onset of these conditions.
Please register with the practice online, you will need an email address to do this. If you are unable to do this, please call into the surgery and a receptionist will help you. If you wish to register you will need to complete a GMS1 and New Patient Questionnaire. We also need to see evidence of identity and proof of address and the person registering must bring their documentation into the surgery to be checked, see below for more information.
The Maltings Surgery is one of the largest practices in St Albans with approximately 18000 patients. The team is proud to be serving the community from the heart of the town centre. We aim to give you the best possible standard of medical care based on a relationship of mutual respect and dignity. Good medical care is based on a partnership between the nurse or doctor and yourself as a patient of the practice.

Spent all week calling the practice to be told to call back in the morning to then be told I need to call back after 10am to the call back at 8am. Finally get told a dr from the practice will get back to me between 1-2 weeks or an associate dr from another practice can call me back on Saturday (6 days later) at 11:30 only for the dr to call at 10am whilst I was working despite blocking out time from work. Forever fobbed of with any concerns I have and referrals take 4+ months which is a joke. Barely functioning practice.

An absolute shambles of a surgery - open referral letter requests are said to be issued within 2 days of request. Chased after 9 days and said the request would have to be remade and you'd go back to the bottom of the pile. Pathetic. I'll be moving GP.
Update - referral has been received, which is a great and welcome response, although it shouldn't have to come to writing poor reviews to get the issue resolved.

All levels of staff at this practice are rude, from doctors, nurses to reception staff. Avoid this surgery if you don’t want to be treated like something off the bottom of their shoe/a massive inconvenience.
Further, the building is ill suited to its purpose. They have new mothers with new borns traipse up stairs & through too-small doors. It really is an awful practice. Avoid.

This surgery maybe the most surgery in the UK. it's impressive how little they care about people. they go out of their way to not pick up the phone, send links to fill out forms to book an appointment that don't work. if you're ill, being at this surgery could kill you. i haven't been able to speak to someone for over a year. at this point, i'm praying & dancing round a fire in my garden naked, because it's more useful than this surgery. Zero star!!!

Hmmm, google average review score not great is it? My recent experiences may illustrate why. Written in August 2021, I am double vaccinated, presume most people are, and presuming all GPs are, still only operating phone appointments, not good if you need to show a GP swellings, or rashes which really need inspection.
A few weeks back, I had to ask a GP 3 times on a call if she had a webcam! she kept telling me she was too busy to use it eventually turned it on mind you to see my symptoms.
Then needing an appointment this week to discuss a possible adverse reaction to medications, I found a) Patient

Very disappointed with this GP Surgery, almost impossible to book an appointment when the phone lines are constantly busy, after waiting over half an hour in the queue the reception put the phone down on me.
The reception team are incredibly rude and need replacing with compassionate people who actually want to help; I was shocked with how they spoke to the paramedic that was ringing them on my behalf to get me an urgent appointment.

Really difficult to get through, especially at the very specific time I need to call to make an appointment. After waiting on hold for 15 minutes, the receptionist fobbed me off with a link to a website, where she told me I could book an appt myself - but the process of booking online is very convoluted and time-consuming. I tried to explain to the receptionist my difficulty in getting through / calling at the right time to make an appt, but she kept cutting me off mid-sentence and ignoring me.

I've been signed up to this surgery since childhood but I'm going to be leaving because the service is dreadful these days. When you ring you either end up placed 10th in a queue which is a good half an hour on hold or you simply get told that the queue is full and to ring back later. This happens no matter what time of day I ring. Got a text saying I needed to ring the surgery about my blood test results. Have been trying for 3 days to get hold of the surgery. Instead of texting me to ask me to call you, why not just ring me when it suits you?
