Roots was established in 2008 through the need to improve the sustainability of the family farm and a desire to sell quality local food to the community. The farm ran by the Hutchinson family is a mixed beef and arable enterprise based at Home Farm, which is part of the Arncliffe Estate. Roots is a social hub, giving locals the chance to chat with their neighbours and for those from the town to enjoy a taste of the countryside.
We are pleased to offer a local outlet for the fantastic produce our farming neighbours are diversifying into throughout Yorkshire and the North East. We would like to make all who visit feel part of this family farm, as they share our little piece of rural Yorkshire in all its seasonal glory.

Services
On entering Roots customers are greeted by our butchery team, who are happy to share information about the local farms that supply the meat or offer any advice on cooking it. Shoppers then can explore the rest of the shop which is packed with every sort of local fayre from fresh fruit and vegetables, Veterans Artisan Bread, local preserves, a wide range of Yorkshire and British Cheeses, our in-house bakery goodies, wine, beer and much more.
Here at Roots we pride ourselves on delivering the best quality local produce at competitive prices, all our beef, pork and lamb are sourced from our neighbouring farmers no more than 4 miles away, truly local produce. 80% of our Beef is off our own farm, and 100% of our pork is free range and comes from Anna's Happy Trotters at Howden, Yorkshire.
Roots cafe has real heart and soul, the atmosphere is relaxed but professional. Regular customers are welcomed in like old friends and new customers are often introduced to the family and the local areas history. Roots prides itself on its personal service, where nothing is too much trouble. We believe that the food served in our cafe is of the best quality and freshness as a result of buying locally.

Was recommended Roots so I’m hoping we just hit a bad day unfortunately we won’t return. Nearly £18 for a plain dry bun with one sausage and a triangle of black pudding (£5.50!) nothing else on the plate not even condiments offered, a tea that was tasteless ( tasted stale as if the bag hadn’t been stored or had been around a while) machine… cappuccino and a tiny ham and cheese toastie with some salad. The sausage and black pudding were very tasty on their own but no love really in the cooking and the cafe and others sending back their meal while we were there

Nice to see Tom(ex-Horseshoe Inn West Rounton) in the kitchen. Always maintains a high standard of fodder!
The Roots Burger Slider was spot on. 3 mini burgers beef/pork & chicken....a great idea. Far superior to hiring scaffolding to make an attempt on the tower blocks a lot of places produce now.
Nice one Tom.👍
